On my rifle scope at 9X I can see rifle size holes on a paper target at 50 yds.
What size spotting scope would be required at 300 yds to see target holes ?? I was looking at one that is 20x - 50 but am concerned that it wont work.
thanks...
What size rifle holes? .22 is much harder to see than a .50.
Is this just for the middle of the day or are you going to be shooting into the evening and at night?
The quality of the scope is just as important as the power.
I have a Swift 839 20X & 40X 60mm
I have used it on a cheap tripod and been frustrated at 100 yards looking at .22 holes.
I have used it on a good tripod and had good results looking at .22 holes at 100 yards.
I had a bushnell 30x-60x scope that cost less than $100 that worked real well for me until I forgot it at the range one day. I've played with all the spotting scopes that Bass Pro Shops carry and for general range use I would suggest something in the cheaper range than the really nice $1200 swavorzki. I think I spelled that wrong but you get the idea.

20-60X80 would let you see bullet holes out til 500 yards with little trouble.
I have the Zeiss Diascope 85mm T FL Spotting Scope. It's a great scope and you can see bullet holes until the heat waves block them. Its a little expensive but you wont be sorry and wish you had something better. I have had several shooters ask to look through it to find their scores when theirs wouldn't do it. I got it for several hundred less than its competitors and you cannot see any difference. The most bang for the buck IMO. Oh yea, I went with the variable eye piece as well. Makes it so you can use it close range as well.
