View Full Version : Do all aftermarket barrels have tight chambers.
I have a Bar Sto barrel for my G23. Problem is that I can't get my reloads to fit in the chamber. I have the .001" under sized sizing die and the lee factory crimp die, but still won't fit. Does anyone know an aftermarket barrel that is a bit larger in the chamber diameter.

Every barrel maker chambers and throats their barrels differently. Some undercut the chamber as they expect their barrel will be properly fitted and finish reamed by a gunsmith. Some have a more generously cut chamber for the DIY'er.
What I think you need to do is check your firearm with go/no go gauges or actually measure the headspace to see if it is in spec first. If it is not, then you need to make a decision from the following:
1. find another drop in barrel that will work right out of box
2. have a smith ream the chamber/throat to proper specs
3. buy a chamber reamer and finish ream the chamber/throat yourself
If the gun/barrel actually are in spec, then you need to find out what is wrong with your reloads. Have you tried any factory rounds? Do they fit in the chamber any better than your reloads?
Check Bar sto's website. I think they will open it up for a nominal fee. Look under "General Articles".
I think most aftermarket barrels are tighter than factory to offer better "chamber support." Some are tighter than others. My KKM G17 barrel doesn't seem tight. Lone Wolf will open up their chambers upon request.
