View Full Version : Quick Aimpoint question
Here is a question for all the aimpoint users out there ...
It has been a while since I messed with an Aimpoint. I was going to put one on my work carbine here sometime in the near future, but before I did, I thought I'd get some feedback from the lefties out there. I am right handed, but left eye dominate, so I shoot a rifle left handed.
With that in mind, how do the southpaw aimpoint users like it? Does the battery tube and brightness knob interfere with your field of view very much, or is it a non-issue? I have looked, but not had any luck finding any "first person" views of an AR/Aimpoint combo to get a feel for it.
I was looking at a Comp M3, or maybe an M4/M4S.
Thanks for the feedback.
The Comp M2/3 can be rotated in its mount to position the controls for left handed use.

wouldn't that mess up the adjustment of the sight? left and right and up and down would no longer be left and right and up and down.

Just remember the sight is rotated 90 degrees. So if you want to go left, it must be adjusted "up". Once it is sighted in, you should pretty much leave it alone anyways.

The bottom line is the elevation knob is always on the vertical plane and the windage on the horizontal.
Luckily the adjustment knobs are marked for both. ;)

Thanks, shows how much I know about aimpoints. I am still trying to save up for one.

I'm right handed and right eye dominant, but just to try to help you out, I held my AR with an aimpoint ML2 on my left shoulder and looked at the dot with my left eye.
The adjustment cap sticks out about a half inch to the right side, but since my eyes are about 2 1/2" apart, measuring pupil to pupil, I couldn't even see the adjusment caps with my right eye, unless I deliberately tried to look at it.
I'd say it is a total non-factor. Personally, I wouldn't even spin the aimpoint in it's mount the way the other previous posts discuss.
Go for it.
Jerry.

I agree that nothing is in the way but rotating it does put the intensity adjustemt on the other side for lefties.
Thanks guys!
Aimpoint it is, as soon as I get the last bit of funds together for it. I think I am going to go the Comp M3 route, as I don't need the extra 100.00 worth of AA that the M4 offers. Five years on a battery is good enough for me. Mine is going to ride in the front of a cruiser, and be regularly checked and maintained.

The aimpoint that I have been considering is the CompC3. It has a 5 year battery life as well. The lowest price that I have found is $373.49.
I am saving up for the M3 in a Larue Tactical cantilever mount. It should do what I need it to do nicely, and as it will probably be the only Aimpoint I get for a very long time, I want to splurge a little and get the toy I have lusted for. And ... the M3 is supposedly perfect for LEO/Military as well, and is on the Patrol approved optics list.
I got my RRA 20 incher with irons I use for range and generally keeping myself good with irons. The Aimpoint is going on the M&P15A with a light and VFG for work.
