You are all welcome to take the drive north up to Virginia for an Appleseed on the 24th and 25th of May. It will be held at Black Creek range near Mechanicsville, just ouside of Richmond, VA.

I never miss an opportunity to travel down to North Carolina for an Appleseed and I just wanted you all to know that we would love to have you pay us a visit up here in Richmond.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is an "Appleseed?"

An Appleseed is an intense two day clinic in basic rifle marksmanship.

You learn standing , sitting and prone positions supported by a sling. You learn the six steps of firing a shot and how to adjust your sights. You learn the importance of respiratory pause and natural point of aim.

It's not a tactical course but it will help you later if you want to take tactical courses. It won't make you a sniper but it will teach you how to hit targets 600 yards away.

You bring a rifle with a sling and at least 500 rounds of ammo. An open mind and desire to learn and even experienced rifle shooters can pick up something new.

How much does it cost? Sounds like a hoot.

It's $45.00 for one day and $75.00 for both days if you preregister on line. Just Google RWVA or Appleseed for the website.

If you pay at the range it's $50.00 and $80.00. A great price considering the amount of information covered.

Appleseed Shoots are great fun!

Kids under 21 shoot FREE as well as anyone that is in the military (active, reserve, guard).

These are shooting clinics, not competitions.

They are a "bring what you have", event, no special equipment required. You will find it easier to shoot with a mag fed semi-auto, but bolt guns are often used with great accuracy and proficiency as well.

Here is the official web site. http://www.appleseedinfo.org

Here is an unofficial web site that does a great job of preparing you for an Appleseed and giving you information about what to expect. http://appleseedshoot.blogspot.com/

Great fun and information!
