MANILA, Philippines -- Police held a 14-year-old student after a sumpak (homemade shotgun) which he placed in his bag accidentally went off and wounded two of his classmates inside a classroom at the Ateneo de Manila University in Katipunan, Quezon City on Thursday afternoon.

A report from the Quezon City Police Districtís Tactical Operations Center said because the suspect was a minor, he was immediately turned over to the local office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

According to the report, the suspect was an incoming third year high school student from another school in Marikina City and was just taking tutorial classes at Ateneo.

The report said one of the suspectís classmates, identified as Terran Burro, 14, picked up his bag from the floor and placed it on the seat around 4 p.m.

The bag, however, accidentally slipped, setting off the homemade firearm.

The report said Burro did not know that the bag had a gun in it.

Burro and another student, Anjenette Catacutan, were hit by metal pellets in different parts of the body and were taken to Quirino Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The suspectís other classmates immediately informed the schoolís watchmen who promptly arrested the student.

The report said responding policemen from QCPD Station 9 recovered three bullets and one spent shell for a 12-gauge shotgun.

Ermmm...

What could an AdMU-QC High School student possibly think he needs
a firearm for in school, let alone a firearm so dangerously homemade?

just to set the record straight, the boy involved is not a student of AdMU. :)

these students are non-ateneans who attend tutorial classes sponsored by the ateneo.

Maybe the "cool kids" were making fun of him.

Or maybe he was a spy from La Salle.

it's probably part of the tulong dunog program.

Atenean HS students tutoring public school kids. We've sent thousands of public school kids to good schools in that program.

The program started in the late 70's by Fr obrien and has gone a full circle. Scholars from the 70's have become very sucessfull and are now donating to the program.

It CANNOT be a case of cool kids making fun of publics school children.

Am quite certain these were not ADMU students. One of them is named "Anjanette." AHS is male only.

Anybody from AHS knows these are most likely some of the TD kids from Marikina, who are tutored in the AHS campus. It is a good program and has helped give many kids bright futures.

Of course, so the press can have material to sell papers, it's bannered that it happened in Ateneo.

Some media people are really sad...

Thanks. Let me rephrase, then... :)

Whoa. Seems like I struck a nerve with some people here. Sorry gents.

1. No reference to social class when I said "cool kids."

2. I'm sure the program has done a lot of good. A bad apple just turned up and I, being a bad apple myself, decided to poke fun at it.

Mods, feel free to edit my apparently insensitive post.

i'm guessing sa commute niya. tough neighborhood ang ilan sa kanila.

sa news account, nakita ng classmate niya ang bag na nasa floor, kaya niya inilagay sa silya. ganoon kabait ang mga batang iyan.

bike, blue and maroon ako - a maroon who overstayed at that

I myself did 7 years in green, at LSGH.
I did 4 on fire, at PSHS, then
finished my sentence in maroon (UP Diliman).
Nothing really remarkable about all that, but...

I bet few of you can claim to have been a student at
St. Paul's in Pasig.

There was no possible conflict between studying at PSHS and at SPPasig.
But it was weird, finding myself a student at what I knew was an all-girls school.

Ahahaha! I can't believe where this thread is going! Walang pikunan ha. Nothing like some chest thumping school spirit from time to time. But, please, keep your sumpaks in your bags.

Well, I fudged. Kinda.

I was in Saint Paul's Pasig as a wee kindergarten scrapper.
After that, it was off to LSGH, and THEN I got trucked off
to DraBac's little corner of Purgatory on Agham Road.
