View Full Version : Considering a Kahr

Well, I've been considering a Kahr as a CCW piece for several years, but I'm a Glock and 1911 shooter. The thing I keep coming back to on the Kahr is how light it is and how well it seems to fit my hand. Additionally, it seems like a Kahr would be even easier to conceal than a Glock due to the fact that it is a bit thinner.
I realize I may get some biased responses here, but I'm looking for input on the topic of replacing the 26 and with a P9 or PM9. If there's anybody that has switched to the Kahr, or has both, I would appreciate some input on the subject.
Thanks!
ETA: I did scan through the threads here and didn't find any questions related to this.
I own both Kahrs and Glocks. Both are great pistols. Yes, the Kahr is thinner and more concealable IMO. The triggers are very different from what you are accustomed in a Glock or 1911. I would relate the Kahr trigger more to a revolver. I like the Kahr trigger as is very smooth. I will carry either my Kahr K9 or CW9 when I want a little more concealability than my Glock 36.
I hope this helps...good luck.

I agree with (Bang) I replaced my Glock 26 with a Kahr PM45 in sort of a round about way.Years ago I traded a Glock 26 for a Glock 23 because I could conceal the 23 just as easy as the 26. I still carry the 23 as my primary LEO pistol. I carry a Kahr PM45 as my back up and off duty pistol. The Kahr conceals much easier then my Glock 23 or 26 and like the Glocks, is reliable and shoots well. I carry my Kahr in a pocket holster or belt slide holster. Don't let the Kahr bashers or "Glock is the only gun to own." folks stop you from buying the pistol you like.

Biased response? not likely. I am a retired LEO after 23 year on the job, started with wheel guns, 45 acp as soon as approved, then when required to double action semi autos, Sig, Beretta, Glock, etc., you get the picture I got more hand guns than most low rent gun shops. Anyway like you I kept finding my pants going south and my back getting tired, still I carry 24/7 even after retirement. Shopped around and ended up buying a Kahr P9 and I love it. Easy to CCW, does not weigh a ton and shoots as well as my G26. Try one you won't be disappointed.

I second the Kahr, I own both the PM9 and the MK40 and the PM9 is forcing me to sell my LCP.
I have carried;
S&W model 60
S$W model 64 2" round butt
S&W model 19 4"
Sig 220
HK P7M8
I now own three Kahrs PM9,T9 and P45
I carry the PM9 the most. All three have been very reliable and accurate. I find the trigger to be like a very well tuned double action revolver especially in the 9mm pistols. The holsters with an open bottom for the PM9 work well for the T9.

I switch back and forth. I carry a Kahr MK9 in my smart carry holster for work or deeper concealment. I carry my Glock 26 in a CTAC holster when I don't have to worry about concealment as much.
Both have been 100% with ZERO failures. I trust my life to both of them and know they will both protect me or a loved one.

Thanks for the responses. I found a PM9 locally that I'm going to pickup. Between the responses here and talking with a couple people, it looks like reliability isn't an issue. I don't carry the 26 much anyway, so it will probably go on the chopping block.
Thanks again.

I sold my 26 after carrying the PM9 for awhile. I never looked back. You will be pleasantly surprised.

I have a PM40 and a P45 and love them both.
I just got a CW9 that will be going on my CCW after I put a couple hundred through it. I think it will conceal well. I carry a P32 now, because I will carry it. I just can't conceal my G19 comfortably.
I realize Glock people despise Sig's and vice versa, but I'd also recommend a Sig 229r DAK as one to look at and try on. My favorite gun is an S&W 649, 5-shot J-frame in .357; but I find I generally strap on the Kahr K9 in preference. And, I'm thinking, if you're a 1911 fan, the K9 will feel more natural to you than other Kahrs will, though it's heavier than the polymer versions.
