Yesterday of a morning I picked up a Kimber Custom Covert II, well this pistol has an aluminum frame. I always shot Wolf steel cased ammo through the Warriors, will the steel cases damage the frame on the Covert:headscratch:
Here is a pic of her and how we shoot together, distance was 10 yards:thumbsup: BTW this is the finest pistol I have ever owned, I only shot 100 rounds through her so far as Kimber says you should clean it every 100 rounds during break in and I didn't have a cleaning kit with me. I also lucked out holster wise, I had a Comp-Tac IWB for the Warrior with a rail and the Covert fits it like a glove so I don't have to buy a new holster.:cool:BTW that is off hand shootin not from a rest:supergrin:

Steel-cased cartridges won't damage the frame, but heck, you can't reload 'em so quit shootin' 'em and fire somethin' you can pick up afterwards.

Let's see ... okie goes from a steel frame to an aluminum frame ... I think I see a Glock in his future. :wavey:

Nice looking Kimber. Do the slide & barrel make the aluminum frames top heavy... or are they pretty well balanced?

I have to disagree with the above poster who said no problem with the steel cased ammo.

The feed ramp on your pistol is anodized aluminum. Steel cased ammo will greatly increase the wear factor, and once the anodization is worn through you will begin to see frame erosion in the area of the feed ramp rather quickly.

Stick to brass ammo for your aluminum framed pistol and keep it happy:cool:.

Best of luck with it...............

Looks nice.

Steel cases will be fine.

You're more likely to see damage from the steel follower of your magazine than from steel cased ammo. I'd swap the Kimber mags for Wilsons before I started to worry about Wolf ammo.

I do have 1 Wilson mag, I need more though. I also have a Cobra Mag as well:cool:

Steel-cased Wolf ammunition will destroy your gun and render it useless before you even finish the magazine. Send it to me for proper disposal. ;)

This might be an issue if he is feeding empty cases, but, otherwise....

I was at my CPL class and the owner of the store/range was there teaching it. He stated something about how if you used steel cased ammo it'll scratch up the throat of the weapon and he could tell in a heartbeat you used steel cased in the weapon, even if its only a dozen rounds (and it voids your store warranty).

Personally I think he's full of crap. Sure it *might* be bad on the extractor.. that's open to debate. The only thing I could think steel ammo might do is it might not expand like brass when you fire it and leave gunk coating the throat you'd need to scrub out. I know it does that on an A/R if you use Wolf.

So is he right? Can you tell a gun's used steel after like 12 rounds? Personally I think he just wants brass only on his range so it doesn't get mixed in with the empty cases they scrounge that people leave there.

I wonder if this guy believes his own BS.
