Probably going to get a green laser for my RRA M4. Is it best to get a vertical grip and mount the pressure swich to it?
If so, what VG do you all recommned? Keep in mind I just ordered a MI#17 so something that will mount to it.

Also thinking of picking up a magpul CTR and some 30 rnd. Pmags.

Any particular dealer that is highly recommended?

It depends.
What kind of shooting are you doing?

I am going with a VG on one rifle and no VG on another.

Just target shooting every once in a blue moon. The handgaurds I bought mostly just for looks. So I wanted to add an accessory or two to it just for the heck of it.

I would avoid the laser myself... except for using IR lasers with night vision (which I do) I prefer not to use them.

The new LaRue FUG is excellent, but for a range gun, the TangoDown will work well.

If you said you are shooting close in fast moving targets, I think a VG makes sense. For general target use and more precision use, I prefer no VG.

I have not done the a daylight laser on my ARs. In bright daylight, I think I will have a hard time picking it out on live targets. It could be useful for trick shots using mirrors.

The list of useful accessories I have tried is fairly short.
The IR laser is very nice. I continue to test, but it is probably the quickest night night shooting setup.
IR illuminator, is also needed for night work.
Regular visible weapon light, good for seeing who you are pointing your gun at without NV.
Vertical grip, useful for up close work. Pointing your gun around corners....

THanks RW.

Do you know if the tango down models can be installed with a quick detach? Then I could just take it off when not in use.

I lean towards them because I read where it says you can incorporate a pressure switch (from a laser?) into it.

I know zero about accessorizing the AR. I've had it for years but have not added anything other than a scope.

I also wanted to get a light but wondered the same. Do they operate with pressure switches as well????

Again, I'm not in combat and hopefully never will be. I just want to add some stuff to the gun, in all honesty, just because I like the way it looks.

I don't know about the TD VG.
My cheap VG can incorporate pressure switch also. It holds batteries in the grip. It uses an Allen wrench screw to hold everything together. It is not as bad as it sounds.

Start another thread on this before making your purchase. There are many options. Is this an indoor light or an outdoor light? Is this a starter item (and can go cheap), or do you want something you can depend on?

For my light, I am using a G2 and G2LED, I have a Surefire pressure switch. It has an on and on with pressure. It is pretty good, but I really think it needs a kill switch. I am using a scope ring attachment, but I see a LaRue mount in my future.

Having extensive experience with pressure switches, I avoid them whenever possible. Even when taped/velcroed/rubbertubed down right, they can catch on stuff and rip off. I've had the wire for a IR laser aimer for the M203, as well as the PAQ4 IR laser aimer for the M4, rip off on doorframes, my own gear, Humvee doors, etc more times than i care to count.

Assuming a railed fore-end and a medium-low budget my preferred setup is a Vltor Scout mount and a Surefire G2, 6P or G3. I use the G3 at work because I need more light, but the 6P/G2 works fine for indoor work. I routinely sweep hangar interiors that are about a hundred yards long and the G3 has enough throw to get farther than 20 feet in the dark which I need.

If more $ is available one of the hard mount types from Surefire (the Millenium and others) would be my pick, or a C2 or similar Surefire in a LaRue mount. Whenever possible, using pushbutton activation.

Here's my mount on my M4 when I was downrange.

I have never been able to get my thumb to activate my g2 or g2LED the way you have it mounted. I think, I have shorter than normal thumbs. I would need a much lower and back mount than I have.

I have fairly short thumbs. I also grip the VFG very high.

LaRue, as well as Daniel Defense and others make offset mounts that will sit further down vertically.

I agree, Tangodown is the way to go.

I think you all are right. I guess I'll go with TD. Now, I saw a thread somewhere about them either having (or coming out with) one with a quick release. Would anyone know if that's a whole new grip or something I can buy to make the current TD detachable?

MrMurphy

If you have the $ the LaRue is rock solid, QD and well made. The TD by itself is fairly quick detachable, but I haven't played with many of them (and that was several years ago) so they might not be as QD as I remember.

The basic Knight's Armarment model shown above in my pic is pretty quick on and off (screw on the bottom, hand tightened) but, like the Tango Down model it's not as tight on the lockup sometimes compared to the LaRue system (it uses the same type as some of their other mounts, which is very solid). Not a big deal to me, but it's a personal preference.

I avoid pressure or ‘tape’ switches for all the reasons Mr Murphy stated. You can spend a lot on lights but you probably won’t get anything better than a Surefire G2 led or G3. For a mount, use a 1" scope ring or get an offset mount from Viking Tactics or Daniel Defense.
