A few months ago I sent my 6 month old K9 into Kahr, the frame had cracked. Kahr sent me a supposedly new gun (it looked like they reused my old sights.) When I took delivery of the new gun I thought it odd that the striker had yellow paint on it. I did not think much of it, and put the gun in my safe.

Today I decided to take out my new Kahr and brake it in. I put in a magazine, pulled the trigger, no bang.... ok... So I taped the magazine, and racked the slide... no bang. I went though the whole mag this way.
I examined the rounds and they did not even have a scratch on the primers!

After stripping off the slide I found that the striker would not protrude past the "firing pin hole" (I of course pushed down the striker safety)
It pretty much ruined my shooting day, I rattled my teeth with some 45-70 and went home.

When I got home, I stripped the slide down and removed the striker. It was pretty obvious why the gun would not fire. The striker that came with the gun (yellow paint) is on the left. A new factory striker is on the right (I bought a spare just in case) The defective striker is about ¼ inch longer, and in no way could reach the primer to set off a round of ammunition. I installed my spare striker and the gun appears to work normally. It will even launch a Bic pen across the room (Clear you gun first before you put the pen down your barrel bla bla bla)

The really screwed up thing is the gun was test fired! there is powder residue in the barrel and in the slide.
I am not going to theorize what happened at the Kahr plant, but Monday morning they have some serious explaining to do.

I dunno - but I just had a broken FP in my 12 year old used (unknown history) K9 last month.....

Looks like different length FP's you got there..... the yellow/longer one isnt by chance for a P45 is it?

FP too long - thus tip always sticking out hole, FP tip got sheared off by rim of cartridge?

hard to believe Kahr sent gun back to you with wrong FP.

I doubt it is for a .45, the tip of the striker is machined flat with sharp edges. Trust me I have worked with shears long enough to know what a sheared edge looks like

I can only hope that some guy QC'ed it at 4:50 on a Friday... and it was his last day! I don’t think I will ever stray from my Glocks or J-Frame again...

There is NO WAY they test fired that gun. In fact, I wouldn't be suprised if some "tech" shipped you a non functioning display gun. That yellow paint was put on the striker to indicate something. Something like it was a NON functioning part!!! Kahr owes you a BRAND NEW gun of your choosing.

I have had great luck with my CW-9. It has been flawless through about 1700rnds.

Please don't let the actions of one incompetent technician sour you on the Kahr brand.

My bet is that when they replaced your pistol, they used a pistol that had been at the SHOT show or some other show that requires that the firing pins be clipped before they can be displayed. I'm sure that it was test fired at some time, but the firing pin was replaced for a show and they forgot to put a functioning firing pin back in.

I talked to Kahr today and that is exactly what happened. They built the gun, test fired it, then put in a dummy striker. I talked to one of the higher ups, who apologized, and he did not know how a show gun got sent out to a customer.

They are sending me a new striker. All in all they were very nice to deal with.
