Anybody know a good one that won't cost me a fortune? I would really like to carry 3 or 4 AR-15 magazines and 3-4 Glock 23 magazines and have a couple of pockets for a small radio and stuff, and mesh is best. Thanks.

A carrier with seperate attachable pouches is better that a vest that has pouches permanently mounted.
Brigade Quartermaser offers a decent carrier and pouches for not a lot of money.

For what you want, you could set the vest up for well under $200.00

I have a Spec Ops over armor vest that is excellent but these are well over $200 when equipped with the pouches.HTH

Define your wants, needs and cost limit.

A basic USGI LBE (old school, Vietnam) with suspenders, a pair of M16 magazine pouches, and maybe a pistol mag or two pouch, can often be had (check surplus stores and online) for about $50 or even less. It will certainly do the job well, just not look as "high speed" as some of the newer options. I've used them extensively and they work.

Any of the newer MOLLE compatible systems will generally be expensive. A base-level option would be getting a MOLLE belt like Tactical Tailor makes ($30-45), basically a 2" wide duty belt, and adding a pair of 2-mag M16 pouches (around another $50) and a double pistol mag pouch ($15-20). This would be the bare minimum and get you going.

A plate carrier (square of material, made to hold a hard armor plate, on front of chest and back) will work as well though cost more. Any chest rig, or vest will cost at least $80-100 without the pouches.

You can find gear used for good prices (I picked up $130 worth of pouches for $60 once). If you want to go that route, let me know.

I am willing to pay for more value and features but I really just want a vest to carry ammunition. Here are my priorities:

1 Light weight and summer mesh would be great.
2 3-4 AR mags
3 3-4 Glock 23 mags
4 A couple of pockets
5 Don't want to spend more than I have to and used is fine.
6 Primary use is to carry ammo while out in the brush.
7 Oh, and a belt on the bottom would be ok too.

Sounds like low heat and ammo carriage.

Any vest will trap heat like crazy, even made of mesh. Trust me.

A standard GI web belt, a GI 3-mag pouch maybe 2, and a general-purpose pouch would do fine. The MOLLE equivalent will cost a little more, but give you more options.

The other option being a chest rig (Tactical Tailor MAV or equivalent) which may make you look more "commando" than you want.

This, with...

and

and maybe a

would do. You can find them new or used (contact me for the used, i can probably hook you up).

the old school USGI equivalent would cost a little less, but also not be as configurable (pistol mag pouches may not fit Glocks, etc) and the ALICE system, while sturdy, has it's downfalls too.

The Sportmansguide rig is a cheap copy of an LBV-88 (which my unit finally ditched) see. Andrewsky's thread on basically the same thing for other ideas.

Having used the "not ripoff" version of the same vest, a K9 handler I know almost lost his M9 from the crossdraw holster. I avoid them.

If mine didn't have to be Army issue, I'd get a Blackhawk off of Ebay. However, I don't really like the pistol ones, or the rifle shotgun combo (who carries a rifle and shotgun at the same time?). I'd go for something like the EOD vest with utility pouches and magazine pouches. Either that or I would get one of the woodlamnd FLC vests or the Molle all-over Blackhawk vest and just configure it my way. That is really a lot more useful. For instance, my Army FLC has a pouch for my cell phone, IPOD (along with waterproof cases from the cavalry store) and all other necessities.
