Castle Doctrine bill needs your support NOW!
The Ohio House will consider an amendment to S.B. 184 (Castle Doctrine) this Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. It is critically important that your Representative hear from you immediately.

Law enforcement groups are working frantically behind the scenes at this very moment to scuttle this important fix. Your Representative needs to know you support gun rights in Ohio.

ACTION PLAN:

1. Use the Link Below to look up the name and number of your Rep. =
www.house.state.oh.us/jsps/Representatives.jsp

2. Call the number. Explain you are a constituent and support the pro-gun amendment that will be offered to S.B. 184 on Wednesday.

3. Explain that several amendments have been discussed and that you are asking your Rep. to support the amendments supported by Buckeye Firearms Association and the National Rifle Association.

4. Stress that several amendments will be offered, and not all are friendly to gun owners. Ask that they listen to the testimony of Buckeye Firearms Association and the National Rifle Association in support of their amendment. Ask that they support our positions.

These amendments will offer critical improvements to Ohio’s firearm laws (not just concealed carry) and mostly address the various poison pills we have been forced to swallow over the years. Law enforcement is wrong to oppose these fixes, and your Reps. need to hear it from the voters.

Visit www.BuckeyeFirearms.org for further news in the next 36 hours. With your help, this bill may be amended and passed by the House by Wednesday afternoon!

Make those calls NOW!

You Can download S.B. 184 here sans amendment.

Although I'm a big supporter of Buckeye Firearms they need to come forward with a little bit more information. Such as what are the amendments being introduced, and which amendments are of the most concern. Just asking us to blindly support something without being given any details is a bit disconcerting.

Please forgive us. BFA could not go public with major details for many reasons. The FOP has decided to declare war on law-abiding Ohioans so now we can.

ACTION NEEDED NOW - Your family's rights are on the line!

We need your help to fight stiff opposition to certain pro-freedom amendments being circulated for SB184. Anti-freedom groups are trying to derail progress the Ohio Senate and House are making on firearm rights in Ohio.

Buckeye Firearms Association has been informed that the FOP has issued a letter demanding your firearm rights be further restricted and is planning a full frontal assault against We The People, their employers.

They are exerting tremendous pressure on the Ohio House and have tentatively scheduled a press conference for Wednesday to continue wrecking the progress we have made on restoring and protecting your firearm rights in Ohio.

It is up to you to show up in mass at the House Criminal Justice committee meeting Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. and possibly Thursday at 9:30 a.m. and remind the FOP that Ohio has a bicameral government who works for "We the People".

It is the citizens of Ohio, through our elected Representatives, who determine to what degree our rights will be restricted. The job of the FOP and other law enforcement agencies is to enforce the laws once they pass.

Click here for a slightly dated summary of the Pro-Gun amendments proposed.

Click here for a letter from the Ohio FOP Legislative Chairman Mark Drum, attempting to derail this progress.

The main changes we are fighting to win for Ohioans are as follows:

1) Establish a clear standard for what constitutes a "loaded firearm." The Ohio House wants to eliminate the "ready at hand" vagueness that has trapped many gun owners and hunters in Ohio. The FOP is opposing this because they claim it would allow "... anyone to carry a gun in a car (non-permit holders) if it is not loaded and no ammunition is in a magazine or speed loader." Since both the Ohio and US constitutions guarantee us this right, it is not the FOP's place to object to this right for all law abiding Ohioans.

2) Provide protection from confiscation of firearms during disaster and other emergencies. This is what other states are calling "Katrina Legislation" and is designed to prevent the wholesale confiscation of lawfully owned firearms such as was seen in New Orleans after the Katrina disaster. The FOP is attempting to derail this important protection to your firearm and property rights.

3) Allow lawful carry of firearms in establishments with a class D6 liquor permit. This type of permit allows sale of liquor on Sunday and includes most Krogers, Ameristops, and Giant Eagle type of businesses. Fixes are also being considered to allow owners of restaurants and bars to carry concealed as well as allow special duty police to carry in such establishments. The FOP has objected to this.

4) Make changes to the notification of officers by CHL holders. The penalty to a CHL for failure to notify (such as after a traffic accident or other highly stressful situation) would be reduced if the status of the CHL holder was already known to the officer. No more making criminals out of honest Ohioans simply because they were subject to a traumatic event and failed to inform an officer of something the officer was already aware of. The FOP has objected to this as well.

We need all gun rights supporters to attend the hearing Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. and to be available to rebut the FOP attempt to use a press conference and a willing media to further restrict your firearm rights. If you cannot attend the hearing, a phone call to your Representative first thing in the morning and to Mark Drum (614-224-5700) are of tremendous importance.

Please help us remind the FOP and various other anti-freedom crusaders that law enforcement is granted their authority and power over citizens by we, the people. We are perfectly within our rights to curtail that authority as we see fit, and it is not up to them to second guess that decision. Their powers come from us; our rights do not come from them!
