View Full Version : Kimber Pro Carry II 9mm
Anyone have any experience with this Kimber? I would like to have a 9mm 1911 in a carry model size for my better half to shoot. How reliable are the mags? Thanks in advance.

I have not heard of any issues with Kimbers 9mm mags, but, if issues develop, Wilson is now making 9mm mags, and Springfield's mags are very highly regarded...

I have the same gun with a 4 inch barrell. I never had any problem with the Kimber mag. Most of my practice has been with 4 Mec-Gar mags that look and feel better than the K imber mag. The Mec-Gar's have been flawless. Early on I had to send the gun back to Kimber. They got the gun running perfectly. The problem had nothing to do with the mags. Its an excellent gun for the money with a very good trigger out of the box.

If you don't mind my asking, what was the issue they fixed? I'm leary of Kimber 1911's due to a Tactical Custom II I bought back when they had their external extractor issues. It was, to say the least, a big, big , big headache that never did run right, even after trips back to Yonkers.
I had a Springfield 9mm Target that came with Metalform "ramped" barreled magazines. The mags ran almost 100%. Bought a Carry Pro 9mm and it gagged using the Kimber mag that came with the pistol.
I replaced the Target with a new Stainless II 9mm and use Metalform "ramped" style magazines exclusively in both Kimbers. I have not had any feeding or slide not locking back issues in over 1,200 rounds.
The Carry Pro 9mm is great, and prefer it over the more costly 3" models now available.

You might also consider a STI LS9. It is my favorite CCW 9mm. It is an incrediable shooter with a 3.4" barrel, the frame is 3/4 of an inch wide and lighter than you might expect from a CCW 9mm (.28 ounces). Here is a link to the STI site: http://www.stiguns.com/
watsoncb,
Where did you get your STI? I saw it once at Nation's Gun Show at Dulles, but I was building an M4gery at that time. So I did not bother. Now I am in the market and that looks really good. I like 1911 to begin with. My G26 and G19 might get a competition for my CCW when I get one. I will look for the at the Dale City show on June the 14th.
Another question, the STI site said that "the slide does not lock open after the last round is fired", why not?
Thanks in advance.
