View Full Version : I am torn on my next shotgun purchase, what should it be.
I really have it narrowed down to two choices really. I have had the lust for a 930 SPX ever since they hit the market. The other is something sorta weird. I want to buy a Mossberg Bullpup. I know they haven't been in production for years. I know I have a 500, and a 590 and really don't need another pump gun.
The Bullpup would be sort of a project gun because I would if possible put a 590 front end on the gun, the 8 shot tube and barrel. Switching out barrels would mean bye bye to the heat shield and carry handle / sights, which doesn't really trouble me in the least, as I would like to put a bolt on picatinny rail to the top of the receiver if it is tapped. (if it isn't I would just put my 590 in the stock, it is tapped.) That way I could mount some sort of cool optics for sights. But will a picatinny rail on the receiver fit under the stock, I think there is stock material over the top of the receiver. Bullpup owners, if you are out there, tell me about this. Should I do this, or just get the 930 SPX and be done with it.

Bullman if you want to go with the Mossy Bullpup give me a PM I know where one is. My buddy owns a gun store and has one sitting in the corner. I can send ya some pics tommorow if you want so that you can better understand if what you have planned will work.
That would be great, thanks.
I will be at work all day, so I won't see the pics till tonight after 9 sometimes.
And I realize that I was a little un clear about the rail, I have spied one that will bolt on and stick out OVER the barrel, so the idea is for the sight, whatever it is, to be out ahead of the receiver.

Bullman I have not forgotten about you. I went to take some pics today and found out my camera was missing its SD card. I promise I will get them though.

Here are the pics Bullman
Where the receiver ends, and the barrel begins, there is stock material over the top of the receiver, is there any gap at all that a picatinny rail would fit under it you think?
Something like this, which this one is supposed to extend over the barrel so reflex sights can be installed.

That one looks a little rough, was he wanting to sell it? Would he deal?

Bullman I do believe that the gun could be bought. The guy is running a gun shop and has a FFL And I have never seen him get too attached to ANY firearm :) But I am unsure about that rail fitting ? I will look again on Sat. And try to post a side view picture of it. I was trying to get it from every angle I could think of and missed that one.
PS I know it does look a little rough but I think it would clean up pretty good. It has just been sitting around the shop for a while.
I think the pic that would probably help the most is to remove the barrel and take a picture head on, that way I can see the receiver, and the stock material over it.

as requested . Personally I do not think it will work without modifying the stock some
From the looks of things I would say that you are right.
Bullman,
If you are still thinking about a bullpup, one has popped up on one of my old hangouts for $400

I think I will probably go with a 930 SPX, the bullpup thought still intrigues me, but I would probably want to get rid of the carry handle and try for something a bit more practical for sighting, and it sounds like modification is going to be pretty in depth.
Yes the SPX with a mag extension and oversize bolt handle seems to be a nice package.
