Being an old fart, I just swapped my black PM9 (with n/s) and a c-note for a MK9 (Elite 2003) wow what a nice pistol. I do not mind the extra weight and the PM9 was a "VA" serial number which I have had for years and it never failed to work...I just like steel guns
can't wait to shoot the MK9, a guy bought it for his wife , she said it was too heavy, never fired it . He kept it a week it is a 2008 model.
My last plastic pistol................nothing left but Browning HPs, 1911s, and a Kahr T9

I've been thinking about swapping out my PM9 w/NS and DLC for a MK9 Elite also. It seems I carry the PM9 more IWB than pocket so maybe the extra weight won't be a problem and actually help. I've read that the MK9s are basically a no go for pocket carry though. Is this the case with yours?

I have carried the MK9 in the front pocket of my usual summer attire "cargo shorts" w/o any problem. If I put it in a IWB I just wear my t-shirt on the outside.
Being retired........you can dress like a bum w/o question

While not being exactly the same situation as yours, after carrying a PM9 then "graduating" to a P9, I'm now carrying a K9 Elite every day and absolutely LOVE this pistol!!! I never found pocket carry to be comfortable with the PM9, it's just a bit too bulky for that method of carry if you ask me. I've carried all three Kahrs IWB, OWB, and in Smart Carry...and to be totally honest, the extra weight of the K9 is not all that noticeable to me......... Weight never was much of any issue with me with any pistol or revolver over the years, but thickness always was....thus the whole reason I gave up on carrying my G27 and G19. As long as you have a decent gun belt and a quality holster, I think carrying an all steel Kahr is absolutely perfect for daily CCW. I personally use a Wilderness 5 stitch Instructors belt, a Tucker's Texas Heritage IWB holster, a UBG Bonneville OWB holster, and of course the Smart Carry..... all rigs works excellent and I would highly recommend any of them to everyone!

I mostly carry my MK9 in my front pocket. Sometimes in my Andrews pocket holster and mostly in my Comp-tac 2 o'clock holster. When the 2 o'clock is in my front pocket the j clip prints and it looks like anything but a gun!
The 2 o'clock is my favorite IWB holster - easy access while driving and perfect with a tshirt out! I have both the j clip and belt clip, the belt clip is shown in the photo - I have put the J clip back on the holster, I like it better. My gun belt is a Kramer double horse hide 1 1/4 inch - one heck of a belt!

I love my polymer pistols (P9, G19, G30, and XD9). However, I have to admit that I do long for a K9 or an MK9. They feel like real quality pieces and if they shoot as good as my P9, I know I would love them.
I understand the allure of all steel; it's a powerful force too!

Just another reason to buy a Kahr in all Steel..... if you think the trigger is sweet on a polymer Kahr, wait to you shoot an all steel Kahr trigger!

Try the MK40, I've owned one for several months now, and absolutely love it; however, the weight forced me to buy a PM9. I just received my Comp-Tac Pro Undercover IWB holster for it and the size is awesome!
I think if I were to do it over again, I'd have gotten an MK9 in steel. I started out with a PM9, and loved it so much I went out and bought a K9 in steel. And each of them serve their function admirably. But one MK9 probably would have done well enough in both concealability and capacity.

Crap, now I'm looking at MKs. I'm still keeping my PM9 though. In fact, just ordered a K&D Dakota Defender for it. I guess the question is, if I go with a MK, should I go with a .40 over the 9mm? I realize 9mm ammo is cheaper and I already have a bunch on hand but since I'll be going steel, should I make a jump to the .40?
... I realize 9mm ammo is cheaper and I already have a bunch on hand but since I'll be going steel, should I make a jump to the .40?
It's all the rage, but I think that's fallout from marketing directed at law enforcement. A 9mm will make someone just as dead, the 9mm Kahr magazines will hold one more round than the .40, 9mm is, as you say, relatively cheap, and it's available everywhere.
Federal Hydrashock 9mm 147gr at fifty yards: 953fps, 297ft-lbs, & 1.4" deflection; the .40 155gr, same brand & distance: 1030fps, 365ft-lbs, & 1.0" deflection.
So there's no question the .40 is a more powerful cartridge. But both will crush bone at fifty yards. And you may well find the additional recoil acceptable. I, myself, don't like it, and prefer the 9mm. Here's one other item: I don't like to have to manage an inventory of lots of different kinds of bullets. It's hard enough for me to keep the four I've got straight (.22lr, .357 magnum, 9mm, & .30-06 sprgfld). And on top of that, I've got some from different manufacturers, some for target, some for defense, different bullet weights. Too many variables for my poor li'l pea-brain. If you've standardized on 9mm already, and you've got other guns that shoot 'em, I'd stick with that just to keep life simpler.
My first Kahr is a P9 and is my constant companion. It has the ideal balance of size and weight. It disappears under just about anything I wear. I have an ankle holster on order from Kahr that I will use for some social situations. In that mode an all steel gun might be a pain to carry due to the increased weight. I recently bought a T9. After 3 range sessions I find that I am liking it more each time out. This week I did a side by side evaluation with my IDPA match gun, a CZ 85 Combat with a 2.5# zero creep trigger. On the 7yd failure to stop drill, 2 rounds to the body and 1 to the head my times with the 2 guns was very close and I had better hits with the T9, especially the head shots. I find that I tend to rush the head shot and fire before I have an adaquate sight picture with the CZ. WIth the T9 on longer shots I find that I need to pay closer attention to sight picture and trigger control or I tend to shoot low. I intend to start using the T9 for IDPA competition.

The question is: Do you I trade the P9 in for a K9? Or -- man-up and get the K9? I don't know if a P9 and a K9 (@$1,200) makes sense on my budget.

Hmmmmmmm that's a hard decision to to make... I would say if you currently own a PM9, then I would ditch the P9 and buy a K9. I think you will find the K9 just as easy to CCW daily, so long as you have a decent rig for it ride in.... and if for any reason you ever need to go lighter and smaller, then you can simply carry the PM9. If you do decide to start looking for a K9 used, try Buds Gun Shop online. Not only are their prices excellent, but the CS is very good as well, and of course they are fellow Kentuckians like myself, and that helps out the local economy.
As a side note, I'm headed to the range tomorrow with 2 friends of mine and 1 is in the market for a MK9. I have yet to shoot a MK9, so if he buys one then hopefully I'll get to help with the beak in.

I could own an MK9...they appear to be highly regarded. I rarely see them at Sportsmans Warehouse however! Bummer! I do like Buds though -- I have ordered from them before.

I personally didn't mind the weight of the PM9, but my MK9 isn't that much heavier. I have had zero problems with my MK9 and it's my 2nd favorite gun in the world :)

I've owned an early MK9 for many yrs. The stock plastic/steel recoil rod is a pos--replaced it with a Kahr s.s. unit. Other than that, it's been a reliable carry piece. Love the gun. Yes, you can pocket carry it easily, just wear a good gun belt to help with the weight. Regards,

I have a stainless K9 (w/meps & lasergrips), and one of the last P9 Coverts (my main ankle carry back-up/always gun). While I'm rarely without my Covert, I must admit, I'd rather have the K9 with me always.
I've said it once, and I'll say it again: The Steel-framed Kahrs are the best-kept secret of the CCW world.

I got my MK9 Elite 2003 about 6 weeks ago and plan to provide a detailed range report after a couple of more trips, but here's a preview. After about 200 rounds so far, no failures to feed, fire, or eject. The empty cartridges fly where there supposed to; it shoots to point of aim at 21 feet, recoil is very nice -- heavier rounds feel better to me than light rounds. I've shot 4 different brands of ammo, and the gun never knows the difference. I've loaded the first round by slingshot and by slide release lever with no difference in function. I've loaded the first round from a full magazine and from a mag with only one cartridge in it -- no difference.
The short length and narrow width make it carry great in a Smart Carry in any pants I've worn - jeans are the best. In a SC it's totally accessible while seated in the car and it carries every bit as comfortably as my J-frame snubbie, maybe even better. In the SC, the weight is carried on the hips rather than on the pants, so the weight of the MK9 simply doesn't matter. It's like it isn't there, all day long -- and I don't run around having to keep hiking my pants up.
The only problem noted has been a fail to lock back the slide on the empty first magazine that I shot, but it's been perfect since then. I'm staying exclusively with the 6-round magazine until after I've worked through the 250 rounds break in, and am carrying this gun daily. I once thought I'd want a Seecamp .32 for pocket carry, but I'll never need to pocket carry with this rig.
My wife got me the Kahr stippled walnut grips for Dad's Day, and some light hand sanding was needed on the inside of the left grip panel to let the magazine drop free again like it did with the factory plastic grips, otherwise they were fabricated exactly right, including the screws provided with the wood grips were just right. The stippled wood grips make this thing feel perfect in my hand. I don't even think I'll ever put lasergrips on my Christmas wish list.
If I didn't say so, I REALLY love the way this gun runs and handles. And, did I mention that it's "real purty"? Thanks Kahr for making this gun.
PS: Sweetist DAO trigger I've shot.
