I'll soon be traveling to the Portsmouth area and I need to know if there are any magazine capacity limits. I will be taking my Ak. I have a Ky CCW, anything I should know?

There is an Ohio law that basically considers any firearm/magazine combo over 32(?) rounds to be the same as full auto, in short. The way it reads, you can't have such a magazine and firearm together in the same place, at the same time. It's really an odd law, you can buy and possess all such magazines that you desire, but cannot have them and the firearm "in your possession/control" simultaneously, at least if the magazines are loaded. Not ebven sure if it's okay if the mags and gun are empty.

And at the moment, it's virtually impossible for someone without a concealed carry license to legally transport firearms and ammo in the same vehicle, even if they are separated and not accessible to the driver/passengers. We're working on fixing that, it's an unintentional (?) consequence of the passage and reform of our carry laws.

As I said, I have a KY CCW, and we do have reciprocity with Ohio, so I guess I should be legal as long as I just take the 30 round magazines.

The law is intended to allow 30 round magazines, but nothing more, such as G18 mags. It reads something like "a gun capable of firing more then 31 rounds without reloading is considered a machine gun". I guess it used to say 30, but some people got busted for putting one in the chamber, then loading a full 30 round mag, so they changed to to 31. I never heard this from a good source though.

Find your state, find you laws.

I found it interesting that I can't conceal carry in my own home without a permit!

Do you smell that? Be careful, don't step in it.
