View Full Version : Maybe women can help?
Hi there, maybe you can help me out with a little research regarding material selection for car seats.
Some of you probably know the material called "SmartFabric" from OUTLAST. The material which feels cool when worn and keeps an constant and steady body temperature for maximum comfort.
My question is, which is the most functional/best material for an application where high body temperature and sweat is the biggst problem:-
- OUTLAST?
or
- 3D weaved airmesh?
The 3D weaved airmesh is mechanically built with physical fibers weaved in 3 dimension to allow air ventilation and create a larger "space" between the body and the material on the opposite side, where the Outlast is more coated so would this have an important play in the material difference??
Thank you all!

Wow! Is it me or have car seats really changed! The last time I used one was 18 years ago!! Wish I could help but I know nothing about carseats of today.
First time parent?! Huh? Why you ask that? But for your curiousity it is second time ;)
Anyway yeah car seats have this problem with long rides where the the passengers get very sweaty on leather interiors so therefor we were looking for some technical solution to solve this. A friend of mine always dreamed about to modify car seat for race sports cars. And I saw Mercedes Benz' seat cover made from 3D airmesh and thought that might be a good solution for this purpose.
But then I bumpedinto the OUTLAST, so here I am. Hmmm but no one really know which one is the best?

I remember hearing on the news about the "flame-retardent" material being harmful. I don't remember how though. I just remember them saying them it was in carseats, sleepers, beds (stuff like that). Wish I could help more. I saw it on the nightly news with Katy Couric.
