View Full Version : Which 357 should I get?

06-30-2002, 16:47
I'm thinking of buying a glock in 357. Which model should I purchase? I like the pocket rocket models, but am also interested in the full size pistols. What is the best and most reliable model to look for in small and large frame and which ones have available high capacity aftermarket clips? Are there any 357's to avoid? I'm a magnum revolver person, but am interested in trying out an auto or two for fun so please point me in the right direction. ;h

If you cannot decide between the full size or the pocket rocket, get the G32 compact. It still has the feel of a full size but it is far easier to conceal then it's big brother. Also it does not have the grip chopped in half like it's little brother so some would say it's easier to control. As far as reliability, one model is not better than the other. They are Glock's nuff said on that. Pre-ban's are a little diffrent matter, any .40 cal model mag will cycle .357. G22 pre-bans work in G31 pistols and are easier to find therefore cheaper. G23 mags will work in the G32 but the G23 is a VERY popular model for civialians so G23 pre-bans command a higher price. I would advise only picking up FML pre-bans for your .357, every time I've tried .357 in a NFML mag it always nosedived. Good luck! :)

I agree. My carry gun was the G26 until I got the G32. Now I primarily carry the G32 and have no trouble keeping it concealed. You will also like the way it shoots. In addition, you can drop in .40 barrel if you want a different caliber OR you can drop in a 9mm conversion barrel if you want to have a range gun for less expensive practice. It is not recommended that the G32 be carried in the 9mm mode - that is for range use only.

The minute I picked-up the G32, I knew it was mine. The first time I shot it, I was surprised at the recoil, but nothing compared to my Colt Trooper MKIII .357 Magnum. It took a little while to get used to it, but now after 8mos, and having shot many of the Glock models, I wouldn't trade it for any other semi-suto, of any make.

Bottom line: you've got to do what feels right for you and your situation.

I've got a g32 and a g27 configured with a G33 factory original Glock barrel. I like them both, but am biased toward the g32. I use to prefer my G23's (I've got about 6 of them, I guess I really liked G23's at one point) but now I prefer my G32 which is not suprising given the fact that both models share the same exact frame.

In any event, I think the G32 is easier to manipulate under stress as compared to the G33. But I think both are great. The only answer is to buy them both and then next buy an extra pair for spares!

get the 32 for sure. i have a 23 with a kkm barrel and a 27 that i was going to get a barrel for. im selling the 27. first thing you should consider is most people who buy 26, 27 and 33's put extensions on. in the 27's and 33's you NEED to put +1's on just to get 10 in the magazine. so now your mini has a grip like a mid-size put cant hold 13 rds like a mid-size can. as far as concealing, the grip is the tricky part as you know. then you get an additional 1/2 inch of barrel with the 32 for more power and a longer sight radius for better aim. this is my thinking, good luck!

Thanks for the responses, I've decided to get a 31C mainly for the extra capacity. A question though, how do you know if the preban mags are FML? Are there certain generations to look for? Are certain aftermarket prebans guaranteed to be FML? And what exactly do you mean when you say the magazine 'nosedived'?

if you look at the very top portion on the back of the mag, if it has a U shaped notch, it is NFML, if it has a squared shape notch, it is FML. Go to www.glockmeister.com for a detailed description.

No problem, I've also decided to get a 31, just the standard one though. I chose it for the same reason you did, unfortunately i'm having a hell of a time trying to get it for a decent price.

Hehe, I meant to say just the 31. I'm not getting the compensated model either. I'm used to shooting .41 in a titanium ultra light and .454 casull so I'm sure I can handle the recoil without it hehehe.

There doesn't seem to be anything for under $550 to be had out there. And I'd probably want to replace the plastic guide rod immediately as well so that will be a couple extra bucks also. Then possible + 2 mag extension, ect., hehe.

I know that a G-32 is 5.00" in overall height and a G-33 is 4.17.

Given that, what is the height of a G-33 plus the extention?

Also, how does the longer length of the G-32 affect carrying concealed?

thx

The G31C is a great gun, I have one and I absolutely love it. My buddy who owns a 32 shot my 31C the other day and fell in love with it to. Spend the extra money and get the compensated model. Your hands will thank you and I believe that the compensated models are far more accurate than the standard models.

Well, I made my final FINAL decision. Somebody with a G19 talked me out of buying a 31. I bought a new Sig P229 Stainless Sport Pistol. Came with a preban mag too. This thing rocks! Just thought I'd let you all know ;f

One of my co-workers has a Sig P229 Sport. It's a fantastic shooter. I have two Sigs in .357 Sig (P239 and P229), with a third on order(P226). They are quite excellent weapons.
