View Full Version : New Dan Wesson Valor on the way
My local shop just got a new Valor in for me. I'm was very impressed when I handled it today. I'll be taking it home in a couple weeks. I just spent $3K on my latest Ed Brown and don't want to spend anything just yet.
Anyway, the Valor just came out and are very hard to get. They managed to find one for me at one of the distributors.
Can't wait to take it home. Here's a generic pic.
I think they're beautiful 1911s.

Price please. I have been VERY interested in them ever since I saw a pic of them. I have never been able to get a price though. It might be 1911 #3 for me if it is priced like their other models.
ETA: Yeah, they look kick ass.

Actually, the Valor is DW's new flagship/premium model and costs about $400-$500 more than the others. The Pointman, Razorback and CBOB retail for $1100 or so, and sell for $800-$900 in stores. The Valor retails for $1600 and normally sells for $1200-$1300. I will say that there is a noticable difference between this 1911 and DW's standard stuff. Not that there is anything wrong with the others, I have a CBOB myself. Its just that this 1911 feels like it costs about $2K. Its really that impressive.
I'm getting it for $1239. Bud's had them for $1175, but they have been sold out for quite a while with no ETA on when they'll have any more. When they finally get more, they might cost more anyway. Apparently, Dan Wesson/CZ aren't making many of these each month and availability is very limited. I got lucky, actually. One of the distributors had one left. My dealer called CZ USA and were told 3 months until they could catch up with production.
Have considered therapy? Maybe a 1911 anonymous, 12 step program is needed here. Dude, step back from the 4473.
Oh...another nice 1911.
$1200-ish. Not bad. That is in line with the TRP price point and I like the looks of the DW better.
I will probably wind up with one eventually.

Well, after the Valor there is only two more to go, so I'm just about done.
These two.

The Pistol Dynamics is already ordered.

Yeah, its about even with the TRP as far as price goes, maybe slightly less.
That said, as much as I love my TRP, the Valor feels nicer. Its got a much better trigger and smoother action. It feels more like a custom or semi custom pistol. I also think its much classier as far as looks go. In fact, its one of the classiest 1911s I've ever seen.
I will say the TRP is more rugged feeling, which is nice as well.

I am just not a fan of 20lpi checkering. Seriously, that is probably the only thing that has kept me from getting a TRP.

I'd love to have a Valor myself - best looking 1911 I've seen in a while.

I agree OM.
I can't wait to get my hands on it. I'll post some pics when I do.
DAMN, that's an amazing looking pistol.

Yeah and it feels as good as it looks. I've been around enough 1911s to know that this one is an absolute steal at $1250.
When do we get a range report.....and pics?

Well, like I said, I'm not going to pick it up until next weekend or early the following week. I'll post some pics right away. When I get to the range, I'll post a report.
I still need to take my new Ed Brown to the range. I may wait and take two new 1911s together.
I tried to find the specs on the Valor...CZ/Wesson doesn't even have it listed on their site.:dunno:

Nope. They don't have the Valor or their other new custom 40 S&W SS 1911. I guess CZ is slow with the site. That said, they haven't shipped many of these guns at all.
It's a great looking weapon. But, My TRP has spoiled me, so far. It's made me a better shot than I am. So, when I get to where I'm better than the TRP (yeah, right) I'll justify another 1911....and that will probably be an SA Pro. ;)
I'm not a collector and have limited resources for firearms.

That's cool. Like I said before, you made an excellent choice with the TRP. The Pro is one of the best 1911s built today.

But having said that....I'm anxious to see pics of the Liebenberg you have coming.
I live precariously through your purchases.

LOL!
I want to see those pics too. Unfortunately, we will be waiting a while. There is a 14-16 month lead time and I just ordered it in late December. I'm thinking next spring. :crying:
Besides the Liebenberg and Valor, my last 1911 will be this one.

Actually, I plan on ordering it late in 2008. The lead time is not long, so I may have it before the Liebenberg.

That has BBQ written all over it. :grill:...shweet.

Thanks.
I was deciding between quite a few for my last 1911 and the Volkmann Signature series is the gun I'm going with.

bac, does this mean you're going to send me your old Dan Wesson Bobtail Commander now that you're getting a new DW? ;)

Quite alright. I think I'm going to buy one as soon as I can find one. Cabelas had one in 10mm but not .45 ACP. The two other gunshops I check didn't have one. I may have to order it online.
Otherwise, I could settle for the Stainless Springfield Armory Champion and get the front strap checkered.

You should be able to find a DW CBOB easy enough. I feel its a nicer gun than the SA Champion.

Looks great. I was going to pick one up, but the dealer that had it wanted $1,750.00 for it. This dealer has a habit of marking up guns that are had to get, and waiting for someone who just has to have it. At that price I had to pass.
It look and felt like a well built 1911. I will probably pick one up in the near future. It will be the first Dan Wesson 1911 for me.
You will have to give us a range report and your thoughts on it once you have had a chance to shoot it.
How did you purchase an Ed Brown and not shot it yet? I am fortunate the dealer I use, also has an indoor shooting range. Most of my new purchases get shot before they ever make it home.
Enjoy it, it appears to be a great gun, and I am jealous of your new purchase!

Price gouging is ridiculous. I wouldn't do ANY business with that dealer. For them to markup a gun $500 is a crime. :steamed:
Whoever would be stupid enough to pay that almost deserves to get ripped off.

Its the best DW too. A great start. ;)

I work a lot and haven't gotten to the range much lately. I know how they shoot though, its not my only Brown.

I don't purchase any guns from them. I usually just go there to look and see the new guns. They normally have the hard to get guns, because of the higher prices. The usually sell the guns at the inflated price. They also have cheap AK with a price tag of $600.00, and they said it is because the supply chain has temporarily dried up.
It is either an impulse purchase for someone and they do not know how inflated the price is, or someone who must have it and be the first one, and does not care about the price.
I own several of my own business's and understand you need to make money, but what they do is crazy. In the off chance it does not sell at the inflated prices, when everyone else has them, the lower the price to the suggested retail.
I will have to wait until my dealer can order one in for me. I am not in a huge hurry because I sent off a Colt Commander in 9mm off to Jason at Heirloon Precision, last month. My turn should be here shortly....
Well I picked it up this morning and just took some pics. I feels like a very high quality 1911 and I'm heading to the range tomorrow to break it in.

Beautiful. I'm not a fan of extended mag releases, but I like the undercut trigger guard.

Wow, another awesome 1911!! BAC, what do you do for a living if I might ask? I'm not trying to be a jerk, just curious. I'm in the "working full-time/going to college" point in my life so I have to live vicariously through other people's (like your's) gun collections while I settle for my puny 8 gun collection.

8 guns are fine. Sounds like you're working hard.

Actually that is not an extended mag release.
Here are extended mag releases on my Ed Brown Classic custom and Rock river Arms Limited Match. :)

Therein lies the key. My sentiments exactly.

Its longer than some of my others. But my Kimbers, Wilsons, and a couple others are about the same.

Yeah, that does make a difference.
Damn! I want one BADLY. Beautiful gun!

Thanks. There seems to be quite a few who want them. Hopefully, there will be more available at some point soon.
