View Full Version : Wellllll I screwed up. Help!
Okay, so I am a bit of a 1911 novice... had a few, mostly collector's pieces, and finally bought a shooter (kimber warrior)
In my arrogance and ignorance, I chose to do a complete detail strip, being experienced with a variety of autos and wheelguns...
the tricky part: Hammer follow like a mofo. Something about getting the sear back in there I just cannot get correct, and the hammer does not cock, but just rides the slide, safety does not fully engage.
Please help, I tried the usual m1911.org links but can't figure out exactly what is wrong here, probably something simple (as I am an idiot).
Thanks guys.

Youtube is your friend. You can find all sorts of videos giving detailed instructions. I just took apart my Keltec because I changed the grip/frame and Youtube made it easy.
Here is what I found in about 10 seconds on youtube. You might want to look around if this doesn't work.

First question is, did you put the sear in the right direction? Sharp edge up and pointing toward the back of the gun. Make sure the sear pin is THROUGH the sear (and disconnecter) and didn't somehow get in front or behind it.
The boat paddle on the disconnector should be down, and it's flat face should be pointing forward. It should mate with the back surface on the trigger bow.
The left leg on the sear spring should be on the back surface of the left leg/tab on the bottom of the sear. The center leg of the spring should be against the wedge on the back of the disconnecter paddle.

Nice closeups.

It sounds like the sear spring isn't in properly. Make sure it is engaging the trigger bow and the disconnector and sear. Also make sure that it completely resets the disconnector after cycling so that it does not have to hop. Cock the hammer manually and listen for two clicking noises. The Kimber has a half-cock notch, so the hammer should not drop with pressure from the half cock.
Keep in mind that the sear spring is already bent properly in a Kimber. It should not need to be reshaped.
Forgot to update:
Got her back together fine, just had a hell of a time getting the left sear spring hook set properly. Much stiffer/tighter tolerances than previous 1911s I have owned.
Runs like a top again!
