Hushpuppies

How the hell did they get there name and who the hell named them that. They ain't puppies they is corn meal deep fried and chowed down on:upeyes:

The name “hushpuppies” is often attributed to hunters or fisherman who would quickly fry corn meal and feed it to their dogs to “hush the puppies” during cook outs or fish frys. Also, during the time of the underground railroads (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underground_railroad), escaping slaves would feed these to the dogs tracking them while coaxing them with hopeful commands such as "hush, puppies."

Yes very true. Whenever I would shoot Camp Perry I would always venture over there. Watch out for the gulls poopin on ya!

As you are unexperienced, let it be known; a good hushpuppy is the most wonderful food in one bite you'll ever have. A bad hushpuppy is like cow flops. You don't want to touch it, smell it and you sure as heck don't want to eat it.

Good hushpuppie recipe.

2 boxes Jiffy Cornbread mix
1 cup sour cream
2 eggs
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup whole kernel corn

Mix all the ingredients, roll into 1 1/2 - 2 inch balls and deep fry until golden brown on outside.

It's a Camp Perry thing. I always make it a point to stop in there, when I'm down for the Nationals. I love the Erie perch as well.

Besides, what is there to wipe on in the woods. Pinecones, uncatchable small animals, various possibly poisonous plants. If I was a bear, I'd want the comfort of a porta-john and TP too.
