View Full Version : Wow! You could hear a pin drop in here.
No love for the DE lately, huh?
:dunno:
Not from me.
Interesting to shoot, but not interersting enough to own.
Still love my DE(44). Was at the range a week or so ago practiceing shooting off my Stoney Point monopod.(I practice the way I hunt)
Was shooting bright pink paper squares that are 4" X 4" at 10,15,and 25yds. This, while trying to accquire, and shoot the target as fast as possible.
A guy comes up to the line while I was shooting the 10yd targets. He pulls out a 4"(IIRC) 629 and sez,"I can do that all day".
I moved over to the 25yd targets and told him,"let's see it". He managed two hits out of the cylinder. I "managed" 5 in a row. I asked him what could he do at 50yds ?? He sez can I use my 7 1/2" Ruger SuperBlackHawk ?? I sez,"absolutely". He managed 1 hit out of the cylinder. I put 4 of 5 in the square and the 5th was 1" out, at 11 o'clock.
He ended by saying that he hadn't realized that the DE's were that accurate. I thought to myself, why would they not be ??
Let's see ::
6"bbl
long sight radius
great sights(mine has the Millett, from Magnum Reserch)
rotating bolt
target trigger from MR
great grips(mine are the Hogue finger groove)
polygonal rifling(enhances the obturation between bullet and the bore, increasing accuracy
The DE has so many good things going for it (especially as a hunter),I'm really surprised they are not more popular.
It's gotta be the size. Oh well....mines a keeper. -----pruhdlr

Here's another.
Just have my reloading bench down now and no ammo left from the last range secession. Too cheap to buy factory for the 50.

I dont shoot my one (black .44 Mag) as often as I'd like, but when I do its always a hoot:cool:
They are really accurate, but its just learning to control your shooting position and your trigger control I find. I can usually get 3 or four shots in a
8" circle at 25 meters which aint bad I guess......most game animals you would shoot with the DE would be a lot bigger than that anyway!
The problem with the DE(as with some of the other heavy recoiling pistols/revo's)is the shooter is so intimidated by the suspected recoil that they forget trigger control. Add into this, the attempt that is being(should be)made to NOT limp wrist, and there is all kinds of things happening that makes the shooter flub up his shot.
Just after buying my DE I got a "good deal" on a MR ajustable trigger. These are the complete trigger system. You pull out the complete origional OEM trigger and replace with the ajustable trigger system.
My trigger has been taken down to 4lbs 4ozs. The system is a (kinda) double action and after the initial takeup,it "breaks" clean w/o any creep.
As with most pistols,I shoot the DE with my weak hand index finger wrapped around the front of the trigger guard. This helps me control the upward muzzle flip, makes me faster back on target, and all but takes away any chance of unintentional limp wristing.
Just by design the DE's are way more violent in the recoil dept. than most(if any)other pistols. Not so much in the initial recoil, but in the "return" recoil. Wanna prove it ? With a EMPTY WEAPON,hold it out in your(two handed) shooting position. With out a mag inserted, have someone pull back the slide fully, and let it slam into battery. Now I know the weapon is somewhat lighter w/o a loaded mag,and the slide is faster returning because it is not stripping a round off the top of the mag,but.........you get the picture.
The DE system is very well designed, but it is what it is. VIOLENT !! The system can be gotten used to but it is completely unlike a Glock,1911,Sig,HK,etc.,etc.
IMO to shoot the DE well, you need a hellova alot more practice. The MR,Millett ajustable sights also help greatly,as do decient grip pannels.
But in the end it's.......practice,practice,practice. -----pruhdlr
