I think the FED should be informed about the loss of said firearm. And a police report may be required to back up said report. So if the gun is recovered in, say, a robbery scene, at least the loss is on record, and your friend wouldn't be in big doodoo if it got traced back to him.

yes, police report is a requirement, and to secure one, he has to have his affidavit of loss to be shown or submitted to the desk officer/issuing office.

I este he pala, went ahead and got an affidavit
Then when we asked sa police station , they automatically gave us a police report
Next step , the FED for the fines...haaay
It will be declared Wanted/Lost

A little proper grammar won't hurt. "Administrative Fines for `LOST OF' Firearms"?

Di ba dapat "Administrative Fines for LOSS OF Firearms"?

Anyway, I think even if you go through the proper procedure (Fine, affidavit, police report, etc) and then sometime later your FA is recovered- you won't get your FA back because:

a) the police are known to keep for themselves recovered/confiscated firearms; or
b) if entered as evidence, then it stays in their custody until it gets pilfered or rusts away after so many years in storage.

ANg bahay ng kapatid ko ay na breakin two years ago. Ang baril nya Taurus millenium .45 sa closet ninakaw. Hanggang ngayon defenseless siya . I told him to get a 1911 by Armscor or Norinco. Takot sya sa nangyari. ANyway he did report the loss. Sayang mahal pa naman ang bili nya sa baril noon.

Ouch. So I won't have to pay any fine if I lose my G19. It doesn't fire toothpick-diameter bullets.
