I Usually Carry In A M-tac...ITS A SIZE SMALL .. THE GUN IS A G26 literaltrance 06-17-2008, 11:32 You're just learning what it's like to carry in a diaper. OWB all the way for me. Ditto. I'd rather sweat a little bit more with an oversized shirt draped over a OWB than feel the pinch of a IWB. Toeach his own though, if you can live with IWB then more power to you. Unfortunately I cannot. :( TylerDurden 06-17-2008, 13:55 Not to sound like a smartass, but the answer is: You're using a smartcarry. Pistols were never meant to be carried next to your junk. speedlace 06-17-2008, 14:07 You're just learning what it's like to carry in a diaper. OWB all the way for me.:rofl: Sounds like you have too big a "package" to accommodate a Smart Carry. Thank God and get a IWB or OWB holster to carry at your side. :wavey: B1rd 06-17-2008, 14:24 C-TAC IWB works great for me. Sometimes forget I have it and have to double check. I practiced for weeks while waiting for the CCW (at home). Only a couple of times I left the house with the gun because I forgot I had it on. Kind of like wearing glasses, you get used to the feel pretty quickly. PicklePilot 06-17-2008, 14:38 Got My Smartcarry Yesterday .. Wore It Out To Dinner Last Night... Wore It High ... Wore It Low... Very Uncomfortable.... Am I Doin Something Wrong ... Im 6'2" 205lbs.... Thinking It May Not Work For Me ??? This is why I don't carry a gun unless I am compelled to...even cop friends of mine, that carried before they were cops, who thought it was cool, are getting sick of it... I joke that if I live in an area where I have to carry a gun, what about my family, kids...who can't carry? Time to move.... Carry is a compromise between the hicap cannon you want to bring to the zombie gunfight and something comfortable that you will actualy carry. Might I suggest this....find the lightest, smallest gun, in a 357/9mm caliber...easiest would be a small revolver...hardly know it's there after a while...then if you want to move up, consider something in Polymer, Glock 19/MP. No one said you couldn't bring a small 25 cal, 32 cal/380...We have a Seecamp 380 on order..tiny..put it in your pocket.... . caldwell25 06-17-2008, 14:46 :rofl: Sounds like you have too big a "package" to accommodate a Smart Carry. Thank God and get a IWB or OWB holster to carry at your side. :wavey: YOUR A NUT... It's much simpler than that -- go IWB or OWB, which is how normal people CCW. :tongueout: To the OP: Joking aside, you're probably doing something wrong with your SmartCarry. Someone else will straighten you out; I'm just here to suggest a C-TAC or M-TAC. I'm getting a C-TAC for my G19, and I'm sure you could easily conceal your G26 in either one. Help us out -- why SmartCarry? I don't mean to be presumptuous, but what I've gathered from the numerous rave reviews of SmartCarry is that people are willing to trade a quick, smooth, SAFE draw for ease of concealment. It seems SmartCarry is great for those who don't want to change the way they dress in order to CCW, but there are definite trade-offs. It's not worth it to me. I'd rather carry a pocket gun than draw any gun from "down there." I know, I know -- keep your finger off the trigger -- but I've tried wearing my Kel-Tec P-11 completely down in my waistband at 4:00 with my DeSantis Insider clip-on holster. It's impossible to quickly acquire a combat grip on the gun when you're wedging your fingers into your belt line. I'd rather not further complicate that by wearing it on my crotch. My suggestion is to put your gun on your hip and "dress around" it. If deep concealment is an absolute must, and you can't change the way you dress to accommodate that, then consider getting something like a tiny Kel-Tec .380 to carry in your pocket. Those .380/.32 Kel-Tecs really do disappear in your pocket. OgenRwot 06-18-2008, 01:09 Help us out -- why SmartCarry? I don't mean to be presumptuous, but what I've gathered from the numerous rave reviews of SmartCarry is that people are willing to trade a quick, smooth, SAFE draw for ease of concealment. It seems SmartCarry is great for those who don't want to change the way they dress in order to CCW, but there are definite trade-offs. For me there are two reasons and they kinda work together, a "perfect storm" if you will . Keep in mind that I just started CCW. I'm 6'5" and weigh less than 200 pounds. Yeah, tall and lanky. That and the fact that I do not want to alter my dress. I've been dressing (casually) the same way for years and if I change it people will know something is up. My shirts aren't overly tight but they're not super baggy either. That being said I print like crazy. Being 6'5" my shirts tend to come to just below my belt and no lower. I raise my arm to 90 degrees to grab something off the shelf at the store and my shirt comes up exposing my weapon. If I'm not wearing shorts and a tshirt (which I pretty much always do, I live in Arizona) then I'm in business casual. Again, being super tall and lanky an IWB does not work because I STILL print. Even if I pull the shirt out a lot it still shows. Ankle works better but then being freaking skinny and tall as hell, pants are hard to find that fit exactly right. So sitting brings the pant leg up significantly, exposing the pistol yet again. My best option I have found is the Smart Carry. It's not perfect but it's better than being unarmed in my opinion. I don't care how goofy I look going for my pistol. I'm not doing it to look cool I'm doing it to stay alive. But yeah, the main reason is that I don't want to alter my dress because I feel like it would actually draw attention to me around people that know me. I don't want them to know I'm carrying anymore than I want a BG to know. edcrosbys 06-18-2008, 02:22 Got My Smartcarry Yesterday .. Wore It Out To Dinner Last Night... Wore It High ... Wore It Low... Very Uncomfortable.... Am I Doin Something Wrong ... Im 6'2" 205lbs.... Have you tried different pants/shorts? Also, how are you adjusting the height, by loosening it around your waist, or just keeping it same tightness and moving it down? Each kind of pants I have there own sweet spot of how loose to wear my SC. I have a few pair that are too snug to wear it though. The easiest by far (for me) is to wear it with shorts! So that is what I would suggest getting used to the holster in. I've also heard you can call the guy who makes them and he will try and help. Reagarding everyone else, I chose smartcarry because of my need to be dressed business casual, tucked shirt without printing. I may bend over, move equiptment around and run cables all without printing. I agree that drawing is a fraction of a second slower. Thx-1138 06-18-2008, 11:05 IWB and OWB work great, and I'm sure smartcarry works, too, once you figure out how it fits you best. You may want to spend a bit extra time and money and get shirts that are extra-long. Big & Tall stores have them, but you might have to shop around a bit - most of the big & tall stores put the emphasis on big. If you wear shorts and a t-shirt most of the time, you could start introducing hawaiian-style cover shirts a little at a time to your wardrobe. Normal people change their style of dress all the time, and most people don't even notice. Start wearing one one day a week for a month, then start wearing them more often. passive101 06-18-2008, 11:29 If you are not drawing safely from a holster, don't use it or learn how to do it properly. How high are you putting the grip of your gun or how how low on you? If you are wearing it high like I do. Belt goes on top of grip make sure it is tight enough it won't be moving around to much. can you post a picture of yourself or give us an idea of how much of a belly you have? The more belly you have the more pressure that will be on it when you are sitting and such. 1/2 way through the video I'm not wearing pants so you can clearly see it. Here is how I wear mine. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Y9oRhLtM6IU CCWMike 06-18-2008, 15:00 I carry my G27 Everywhere and it is so comfortable that I do not even notice it anymore **Belt** Wilderness 5-Stitch Instructors Belt **Holster** High Noon Holster, Slide Guard Super comfortable, Adjustable.... After many attempts I settled on this combo Pierre! 06-18-2008, 23:10 I have felt your PAIN, and here is what I did about it... Now keep in mind my system is called Thunderwear, but the principles will be the same. I tried wearing it as recommended... Centered on the front... and no way. My modification assumes you are right handed for starters. The pistol is in the right half of the apparatus when you have it on. I shift the whole arrangement to the left which puts the butt of the pistol right along the zipper line. The slide goes along my left leg, the rear of the slide goes *comfortably* where your leg bends at the hip. Now - the strap is actually on in a rather diagonal mode. The pistol pouch is in the lowest position. The OPPOSITE side will be the highest point, and will be just above your right side buttocks. You do have your shirt over your shorts, and the holster and retention strap go over the shirt. You can put a magazine in the left side of the system, but it will make your left pocket look REALLY full of stuff, particularly if you DO put stuff in your left pocket. This works really well with pleated pants or shorts. In more formal settings, pull your trousers up as you sit - grab the pants leg while it's loose, give it a tug up, and then sit. Practice this, and it's natural. If someone seems to be staring, it's easy to put your left hand in your pocket. Instant camoflage. The really good news is that the Number One restroom sessions are REALLY easy to do with this arrangement. For the Number Two sessions, the holster comes up twords your chest, while the pants go down. I usually put the shirt over the holster and pistol, and it's still accessible and not easily discovered. The bummer is that you have to redo the whole setup once the Number Two session is completed. Not something you do in a hurry... (LOL) So, check it out. Let me know how this works for you. I run both a G26 and a G19/G26 this way with good results (G19/G26 is a G19 with a grip that is short like the G26) Hope that helps you out... PS - I work at a firm that has a "No Weapons" policy, unless they are afraid of something... then they ask me to carry... Of course I say "Can't, there is a No Weapons Policy... can't carry one". So the Thunderwear/SmartCarry style has been quite effective for me. Thx-1138 06-18-2008, 23:16 1/2 way through the video I'm not wearing pants so you can clearly see it.
