View Full Version : WA: Seattle ban on CCW on city property
Please the time and write to the Mayor of Seattle (P.O. Box 94749
Seattle, WA 98124-4749) regarding his Executive Order banning legal CCW onto city property.
Here is the city's link to the order:
http://www.seattle.gov/mayor/executive_orders/E0708-GunSafetyAtCityFacilities.pdf
Please be clear and polite.
Here are the pertinent sections of code that I believe it violates (snipped from my letter -- please rewrite to your own flavor):
"I understand your Court case reference -- but a locality's ability to restrict firearms sale and discharge is specifically addressed while possession by a license holder is not.
In fact, RCW 9.41.300 seems to say otherwise:
(b) Restricting the possession of firearms in any stadium or convention center, operated by a city, town, county, or other municipality, except that such restrictions shall not apply to: (i) Any pistol in the possession of a person licensed under RCW 9.41.070
Even in RCW 9.41.300 where firearm possession is prohibited to license holders (jail, courthouse, etc) it mandates that a lock box must be provided in 1(b):
In addition, the local legislative authority shall provide either a stationary locked box sufficient in size for pistols and key to a weapon owner for weapon storage, or shall designate an official to receive weapons for safekeeping, during the owner's visit to restricted areas of the building.

This is the most retarded state I have ever lived in in many ways. One of the stronger local economies in the country yet our schools are 46th in the nation (that's so shameful it's not even funny). People here in the city don't think- they meet, feel, and discuss- and ultimately do nothing. It's the place where being green and environmentally sound is driving a 30+ year old VW bug or bus that saw better days more than 20 years ago while it leaks fluids and gets 12 mpg- all the while creating a rolling roadblock for the hundreds of SUV's behind it. It's the city where the day you decide to move right next to the coffee shop, bar, or book store that you work at so you can bike to work on roads that are already overstuffed, all the while expecting to be treated like any other car even though you don't obey any traffic laws while riding. This is the state where your inbred children fail the pathetic math portion on state equivalency exams so their retarded parents protest and complain until they just remove the math portion from the test altogether -but don't worry they still ***** when they can't understand the accent of the person who's helping them with computer support and wonder why we outsource all of our technical jobs. This is the Idiocracy (rent it if you haven't seen it already).
Sorry for ranting, if it weren't for many of the people Washington would be a really cool place.

People here are so "open-minded" that their brains are flying away.
The gun laws aren't that bad (OK, not perfect but far better than CA). But there seems to be a trend lately for Mayors to overstep their legal authority.
EDITED TO ADD:
Add Montesano's City Council which has passed a resolution banning CCW in parks. If you live in Montesano please write your Mayor and contact the Councilmen. There is a meeting I believe in a few days!

Don't confuse a city full of retards with an entire state. Seattle is a cesspool of blue (as most major cities tend to be) surrounded by a fortification of red. Start by moving out of the city. If that doesn't help, move to California or Illinois for a few years to recalibrate your perspective.
Washington is both an open carry and a shall issue state; it also has a constitution that preempts local jurisdictions from enacting any gun laws that are more restrictive than the state laws.
It ain't ALL bad here.
I have a more complete letter that I sent here: http://regworld.doesntexist.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=53&p=81#p81

Why are you being so nice and polite?
1) This guy violated State law
2) If he had his way he would ban every gun you own
3) He doesn't give one crap about your opinions
4) Re-election is his only goal
I'm sick of being "nice and polite" to the scum who think nothing about trashing our rights just because it fits with their personal agenda/beliefs.
The only way to get these folks to modify their behavior is to treat them so harshly that they think twice about it next time. Instead of "please reconsider" we should be saying "Your a criminal. . I'm talking to all my friends about your illegal behavior (you are not above the law). . . Great message your sending that people can pick and choose what laws to obey. . . I'm supporting the lawsuit that will overturn your illegal declaration. . And when we win (which we will) you will look like a complete idiotic jerk".
It's time to stop being nice to these ASSHATS!

We would like very much to do just that sir.

Call me overly-cautious but I still have to work in Seattle.

I have written a couple of my Congressmen to request a ruling from the AG office since the Court case cited is on a waay different issue.
I do understand your point, but it is my first contact and I don't want to be written off immediately as a gun "fanatic" and shrugged off as rude.
Opinions may vary, I hope that people do write and express how they feel. At least that way they can't say that nobody noticed or objected.

Unfortunately, it is a state where the Republican Gubernatorial candidate can win the election. And win the recount. And then lose because the largest county somehow "FINDS" a large quantity of previously uncounted ballots that turns the election.
I live in that county and did not receive my "bonus" ballots.
