View Full Version : Glock 36 ammo
What ammo are you guys running in your G36? The 45 acp has a tremendous amount of ammo to choose from, just wondering what was working. It seems the 200 grain TAP might be a good choice? Tell me what you know, also recoil is important to me (lack thereof) so that is also a consideration-

I use the standard pressure 230gr Speer Gold Dot. Very easy to manage recoil. More than 'enough' bullet to do the job.
Fired a box of 185gr +p Hydra Shoks through it Saturday morning. Abrasive, just abrasive. Not (for me, anyways) real conducive to fast, accurate follow up shots. I am not new to handgunning, nor to recoil. But, I want to carry something I can shoot not only accurately, but fast.
My two cents' worth,
Hope it helps,
Dan

I finally settled with the Corbon DPX +P 185 grn. According to my chrono, it clocks in at 986fps.
Some others, FYI, out of my G36. 5 shot averages:
Taurus 185 Copper 865fps
Hornady 200grn +P TAP 908fps
Remington GS 230grn 795fps
Corbon 230grn +P 932fps
and just for reference 230grn WWB 760fps

I couldn't get my G36 to run on DPX. Only ammo that ever gave me problems was DPX and Winclean.

Remington Golden Saber seems to be about the reliable feeding JHP bullet. I like the standard pressure 230 grain ones. The 185 grain ones feed very well but it's difficult to find the non +P version as most of the 185 Golden Sabers I find are almost aways +P but Remington does make a standard pressure version.

I use the Taurus 185 Copper in my G36. As posted by Kevin, they are 865fps, but the expansion is WICKED. I have an expanded round at home, I'll have to post a picture later. I have never seen expansion and mass retention like this in an HP round at that speed. Most rounds at that slow of a speed do not open fully. But those Barnes all copper HP's that Taurus is using are incredible. Also, much easier on the recoil too.

Yeah, the Taurus stuff is a great price to. I think I paid like ~13 for a box, or something like that at ammotogo
Funny thing too, is that I was told the 185 barnes bullet Taurus uses is the same as the barnes bullet Corbon uses in their DPX load; no way though. I have both, and there is visually a difference. Opening/profile seems about the same, but the Taurus is "rougher", and more jagged, and a different color shade as well. I assume it's a little different to allow for that expansion Ryan spoke of ???

Here is a link to a great write up. They also have a photo of penetration in a ballistics gelatin block. There results mirrored mine. Almost 100% weght retention, and uniform and drastic expansion.

Winchester Ranger T 230 grain +P
Lots of kick though. But I figure I only have 7 opportunities with the G36, so this round is what I believe gives me the most muscle per round.
