Hey guys... Give me some advice on carry loads for my G23.. I have only experiemented with Hornady TAP FPD 155 gr. and a 180gr Federal Homeland Defender rounds. I am thinking along the lines of heavy (180 grain) because follow-up shots are quicker.

I am considering:

Speer Gold Dots in 165/180
Federal HST 165/180
Corbon DPX 135
Winchester Ranger

What do you guys use? Do you prefer light over heavy? I'd like to know what you guys consider reliable? I know that you really can't go too wrong with quality manufacturers i.e. Winchster, Federal, Speer, etc. Any info would be much appreciatedThanks!

I tested out several 40 loads in my Glock 22 today. For me the 180's offer a good combination of penetration and control. It has been said that the 180's are the most reliable in a Glock as well. I am sure you will get some good info from many others that shoot a lot more than I do.

I'm stocked up on Remington Express 155 grain, 180 grain Golden Sabers, and 165/180 grain Gold Dots. All have been reliable in my G23. :wavey:

180gr. HST's in my G23 and G27. I highly recommend them.

Generally speaking, I would suggest pretty much any hollowpoint in the 180 grain weight class (especially ranger-t and hst ammo).

You're on the right track. I'd stick to these loads:

Federal Tactical 165 gr JHP (LE40T3)

Winchester Partition Gold 165 gr JHP (RA401P)
Federal HST 180 gr JHP (P40HST1)

Remington Golden Saber 180 gr JHP (GS40SWB)
Speer Gold Dot 180 gr JHP

Great info.. Do any of you guys know anything about this Homeland Defender 180gr. load? Its got Federal's Stamping on the casing. It has one huge open JHP face... Larger than most I've seen. They form a "cup" and have distinct "petals" 6 to be exact. I may have to post pics to show what I'm talking about. I have yet to find specs on the net in regards to this load I don't have the packaging but the box was gray and they have a pending website...

If it feeds reliably, is from a major manufacturer, and otherwise functions as it's supposed to, it really doesn't matter.

You can argue for and against every single cartridge here for an eternity, and it won't change anything. You can't go wrong as long as they go bank when you pull the trigger.

180 grain HSTs in an HK USPc, take a look at the bullet design and take comfort in the fact that it is badass.

Carry Speer GoldDot 155 grain, but any 155, 165 or 180 grain hollowpoint will be about the same. If I could find more of them, and a good practice round that mimiced it I would be carrying the 180 Speer GoldDot SHORT BARREL load.

180gr in a reputable manufacturer. See the "Load Test Data Report" link in my signature.

I use 180 Golden Saber in my carry mag and 165 Gold dots in my spare mag (G23, 13 rounder) I used to carry 165 Corbon all the time. but I like to cycle carry loads through my gun at the range pretty frequently (at least once a month) and the range I frequent always has fresh supplies of Saber in stock at reasonable prices. I carry to the range clean and lube there on site there after and carry home or else where when I leave.

I liked the 155 or 165 grain Speer Gold Dot JHP when I had a Glock 23.
