View Full Version : Evaluate my ammo choice
SO..
It came time to place an order for some ammo for the G19.. I hit ammunition to go..
I got this stuff to punch holes in paper at the range.. British military surplus FMJ's

And this as my carry stuff.. Winchester Ranger talons..

So how did I do for a newbie in 9mm ammo?
Don't know about the British stuff, but with the Ranger SXTs, you hit it out of the ball park! That is excellent ammo for self defense and ATG is a good company!
Good job!

Agree that the Ranger load is a great one!!!
The British ammo should be OK for the range... it is jacketed, that is good for your Glock...
My only concern is the light weight (95 grains)... I wonder why they chose that bullet weight?
95gr is an 'older' 9mm choice. Some of the original Luger loads were only about 100gr, and the initial US police 9mm (ISP) was a 95gr JSP. Hirtenberger and others have loaded 95gr JSP for Euro markets for a long while.
The RG stuff is flat shooting, low recoil, and great for target use.

For range ammo I'd rather have WWB...less then $20/100 at Wal-mart.
Great choice for your carry ammo. I couldn't tell you anything about the plinking ammo.

The Win Ranger T-Series is an excellent load for SD. So no worries there (as long as it feeds reliably in your pistol).
As for the Federal 95gr. JSP, it should be just fine for plinkin' and paper punching. This ammo was made by Federal using British Radway Green components (brass & bullets), so the quality should be better than the original RG ammo made in the U.K. Though, $11 per box is kind'a steep for plinkin' ammo.

leitung, it may be prudent to place another order a week or so before end of month.
ab2062 is working its way through the senate for a vote... http://nramemberscouncils.com/legs.shtml?summary=ab2062&year=2008

Yeah, I have every police cadet at sierra college sending letters to the governor about that one, as well as everyone in my family.
I still bet he signs it, even then it probably won't go into effect until 2010 or 2011..

Yeah... he's a real 'piece of work'... doesn't want to allow oil drilling, either... must like depending on foreign oil...

BTW... back to the ammo thing...
I personally like Winchester Ranger 147 grain JHP 9mm (RA9T) for 'serious' work...
And... Winchester USA 147 grain JHP for practice/plinking...
