View Full Version : Info would be appreciated
Hello all, new user to glock talk. I've had a Glock 23 sometime now, but never really enjoyed carrying that much because of the holster. I have a kydex paddle holster. It works fine, just doesn't conceal well. I'm 6'2" 200lbs. I see a lot of talk on the Comp-Tac company. I would like a IWB holster but really have no idea what would work best for me... Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.

I think the first question you have to ask yourself is whether or not you're willing to carry OWB or IWB (outside or inside the waistband). Some things to think about concerning either mode of carry. In general, the following precepts are correct:
OWB - more comfort
IWB - more concealability
If available to you, I think a good approach would be to get your hands on a cheapy (but well-known) IWB, or borrow one from a friend. If you can get used to the IWB in a month's time, you're probably set. While I can't stand IWB discomfort, http://www.comp-tac.com makes some great IWBs. Don't let their size fool you, they definitely work. I've got a Minotaur MTAC IWB and I am able to wear this on hot days where I know I'm only going to be out for a few hours. It's also worth mentioning that Comptac's customer service is ridiculously good!
If not, you'll probably have to stick with a OWB. I recommend the Don Hume Conceal Holster "H721 O.T.: Open Top" line with the slide guards. They ride high, have excellent accessibility, and in general and have worked GREAT for me. Besides, it's hard to beat a quality leather holster for 40 bucks. Barring any extreme circumstances, this is my method of carry.
Also, check out the Holster Library thread (I believe it's a sticky). I think it's safe to say everyone in the Carry Issues forum has, at one time or another, dreaded dropping top dollar on something they can't test or check out before laying down the greens. You may be able to find someone who's willing to help you out in that thread.

I am maybe 20lbs lighter, and just as tall. I use a Disantis tuck this, with my G30. IWB.
I've used Sidearmor IWB Kydex holsters for over five years now. For me, and I'm a large guy, getting smaller, they have been very comfortable using a 15 degree cant at the 3:30 position.
Last year I bought a Tucker Gunleather The Answer holster and wear that also. Great, comfortable and, like Sidearmors, built to last.

I second SideArmor for kydex. I prefer leather if I'm going to be sitting for an extended period.

Here's my G-23 in a Milt Sparks VersaMax-II IWB holster with my shirt tucked in so you can see it... I normally wear it out and it's all I need to conceal my Glock. 5'11 and 225lbs. :whistling:

I have a mtac minotaur that i carry a beretta 92 in. it is a great holster and conceals well. It is also extremely comfortable. best part about it is that if you decide you want a new gun, all you have to do is order a new shell for the gun you buy for like 35 bucks.

Honestly, for concealability you can't beat an IWB holster. These work well for me with some of my clothing, but drive me crazy on tighter pants and such. I also use a no-name belt holster for more comfortable carry. (I'm a good bit smaller than you at 5'10" 175lbs).
Other considerations go beyond the holster. Consider your clothing choices and where you position the gun on your body. I usually try to wear a lightweight T-shirt tucked into my pants, just to prevent gun chafing. Then I throw a loose shirt over top of it. Works well with the tiny Glock 26/27's.

I carry OWB in a Comp-tac paddle everyday with Glock 32, also a Kimber .45and never had a problem. Comfort and stays close to the body. I wear a loose polo or button up.
Will be looking into a IWB holster. Thanks for the responses.
