From what I read this is a hot new ammo that is supposed to be really accurate and fast. I tagged this question on to a response to a thread in another forum but I wanted to post it up here in hopes of getting a a little more exposere and hopefully and answer.

I Live in the Houston Texas area and have looked pretty much every where I can think of and no one seems to have this ammo for sale. No big chains or mom and pops or anything.

I found a place where I can order it on line for 12 bux a box of 50. But by the time they get through adding all the shipping and handling etc it is up to nearly 20 bux a box. I can shoot my .45s cheaper than that.

Has anyone, particularly in the Houston Tex area, seen this ammo for sale in a retail store. I'd appreciate a heads up if you can help. Thanks!!

Sorry I can't help with your specific question. Just wanted to say I noticed this New Hornady 22MAG ammo in their 2008 catalog and am quite curious to try it out in my 6.5" barreled Ruger New Model Single Six revolver.

Anyway, rock on:rock:, and I hope someone can help you with an answer to you actual question!

I hear ya! I have the little Heritage combo myself and I'm just wondering how that mag will perform in a 6 1/2" barrel. Thanks for the response.:wavey:

My bother-in-law has the Heritage with a 6.5" barrel also. I shoot plenty of 22LR ammo in my Ruger, but the only 22mag I've tried is the 40gr Win. Super X stuff. With the LR ammo, darn near one hole groups @ 25yds are the norm, like when I aim at the target, I don't aim for the center dot, I aim for the little number(s) printed in each ring.

With the mag ammo I mentioned above, all accuracy goes right out the window, and I'm lucky to get a six shot 6" group! So I'm hoping some of the lighter faster mag rounds will stabilize better. I figured those new Hornady 22MAG rounds would be nice to start out with. One guy told me he's never heard of a single six Ruger that would shoot a decent group with 22MAG ammo. I'm seriously hoping he's wrong and just got bad info!

I think the problem with the convertible guns is that there is a slight difference in bullet diameters between .22 LR (.223) and .22 Magnum (.224). I'm not sure what the bore diameter on convertibles is, but I doubt it's optimum for both cartridges, degrading accuracy.

Well I can't speak for the Rugers etc but on the heritage the the .22mag ammo seems to be equally accurate as the LR ammo. The bullet for each are the same size but the shell casing for the mag is slightly larger and the holes in the cylinders for the mags are slightly larger to accomodate them

This was my first trip with it to the range. I fired six rounds of each from 10 feet to get a feel for it and the rest were fired from the farther distance. Sho' is fun to shoot LR and MAG alike!:wavey:

I just got a ss ruger convertable a few weeks ago, with it i got 40gr. tmj maxi-mag, 30gr. v-max, 36gr. fed. value pak.(.22lr). my pistol shot the best with the .22lr (3.5@25yds),40gr.tmj(4.25@25yds), 30gr.v-max(5.625@25yds.). The bullet looks nice with the black tip but didn't shoot as well in my ruger. btw, the diff. between .22lr & mag is the case length and od. of the case.
