View Full Version : Velocity Gains...

I often see "increased velocity" as a benefit of the long slide models. I mostly just like the increased sight radius and better balance of my G35. While it is nice to know that I am getting a bit more velocity, I really don't think about it.
Is the increased velocity a big issue for you? Has anyone ever run some loads over a chrony to show the velocity gains when going from a G22 to a G35 or G24? Can someone post the velocity data?
Thanks!

For me it's only a factor in 9mm, and even then it's important to pick a bullet that will hold together.
Higher velocities will also help insure expansion in unusual applications, like extra clothing or other barriers.
I believe that the Speer Gold Dot 124 JHP +P load is probably the best for longslide 9mm's.
Another minor factor is reduced muzzle flash and blast.
IIRC, Butch did a chrony session with all sizes of 9's, maybe a search would dredge that up. It's been a while though.

Now that I think about it, his G-34 edged out his 17L for velocity. Butch speculated that it was because the 17L was older and had seen many more rounds through it.
