Finally the waiting is over! (What are my chances update)

So, about 6 months ago I started a thread asking what my chances were for getting a CWP after having been busted for weed 21 yrs ago. Of course I got varied answers (UHLawpup thanks!) for the best one. Any way after an eye opening journey through the records system and permit requirments I provided SLED with my arrest record and the disposition (guilty, simple possesion) and got my liscense today just after lunch!

I had already been to Wally world and the lines were horrible. I didn't wanna go back there so, I went to Lowes and got metal cutting sawzall blades and then by the supermarket for some bread and beer.

I wore a j frame in a paddle holster with an over size button up shirt and nobody even blinked. Now I just have to get a good holster for my RIA .45

The one thing I want to point out is even though the record was supposed to have been expunged there still was a record of it somewhere. If I had tried to deny it I would have been up the creek without a paddle. I went to the original arresting agency and they had scanned the original report. The original was gone but out there in cyberland nothing is ever really gone.

I had to do some extra leg work but, it was all worth it. :cool::cool:

Good for you. I'm jealous, though. I got a letter from Louisiana DSP today (after 50 days of waiting) telling me that my finger print card was too smudged to use. Now I have to redo the 10 card and wait some more.:steamed:

That sucks!! I hear that they have a digital fingerprint machine in a lot of precincts now. They can take it and check it on the monitor before they print or send.

As a funny aside, when I had my prints done the lady doing them said that I had this done before.:rofl:

Nowadays, getting busted with pot would probably just be a ticket. Assuming you had only a small amount.

Good job getting your CCW permit. I would suggest something other than a paddle holster though. They are just too easy for someone else to remove it from you. I'd suggest some kind of leather IWB or OWB holster that hooks securely on the belt. Or a pocket holster. :thumbsup:

I want to carry my .45 full size. I've been looking through the holster links provided above and will go with a comp tac or bullman's iwb pdl. I wonder how many folks carry full size?

Ok, I got a question for you:
I was under the impression, (after talking with an attorney at a party about something entirely different), that when a conviction was legally expunged, even though there was a sealed record of it, one could say in all honesty that they have not been convicted of that crime.

Is this not correct? I was told that the expungement was the one time "get out of jail" pass for people who got convicted of a one-time transgression if they had no priors.

Well, here is the rub. I don't think it ever was truly expunged. It was supposed to be. I tried to find the original lawyer who represented me just to find he had been disbarred. My present lawyer said to just proceed and if it became a problem we would take further action. This kind of thing happens all the time. Lesson? Don't take anybody's word on it. Hound them and then check to see if it's still there. You see it is really confusing to me. One time I was asked by a LEO if I had any priors and I said no (believing that it was expunged) and he ran my liscense gave me a warning and sent me on my way. :dunno:

I have to believe that if it had showed up he would have gone into a much longer inquiry with who I am, what am I doing, where, why and when, ect.

Oh, well. It's been so long ago I just won't worry about it any more.
