Are the finger grooves wider on the full size frames compared to the compact frames ? My fingers sit right on the grooves on my 23.I held a 22 the other day and my fingers fit between the grooves. Is it just the longer grip that makes it seem like the grooves are wider , or what ?
When you lay a 19 on a 17 side by side, by the naked eye they look to be in the same place. the only difference is the the pinky or last groove. On the 17 it is longer and does not have that pushed up lip. thus the hand is not as cramped on the 17 frame which may make it feel wider.

There is more space between the grooves on a G17 versus a G19. But the grooves are the same width.
Prior to, IIRC, 2006, the finger grooves were more rounded and did not wrap around as much as the newer finger grooves. The newer grooves are also more pronounced, a bit "sharper" at the peaks.

there are 3 rows of checkering on the full size (3 finger grooves), and on the subcompacts (2 finger grooves). on the compact models (3 finger grooves), there are 2 rows of checkering on the top and bottom finger groove, with 3 rows on the middle one
so yes, the top and bottom finger grooves on the compact are narrower

This also shows off the differences in the grooves.

Legion3, above, is correct. I have both and tried it. They ARE the same, regardless of '2 or 3 rows'.
