30 years ago, I thought I was a pretty hot shot.
I used to shoot a Ruger Mark 22 bull-barrel 5.5", with a 1.25x scope. I could shoot <3" groups at 50 yards. (At least, that's what I *remember*! :whistling: )
Well, today, I popped my/G17 cherry.
Since there's been a few posts in the last month (since I joined) asking what it's like to shoot a Glock 9mm, I'd like to post my thoughts, for other newbies.
I'm *certain* you've been dry-firing enough to be familiar with a good grip, right? RIGHT?!
OK, then.
And you should know your ranges' rules...
Saftey first, saftey always. Make sure the line is clear before you walk out, and make sure no-one is downrange before you pick up your gun. Make doubly sure that if you can't see past your 15/25 yard berm, that no-ones at the 300 yard targets!
Wait for all flags to go back down before you pick up your gun.
OK, so here's the payoff. The first time you fire your 9mm Glock, you will be surprised at how loud the report is. Even with my stereo and motorcycle-abused ears, and with my foam ear protectors screwed in tight, the report surprised me.
If you are in a home-defense situation, that report *will* affect how you perform. Keep that in mind at 3am. Imagine how shocked you'd be to see Hillary at 3am, that might help. :wow:
Recoil... Again, I was surprised at how 'violent' it was. Not that it was punishing. It's not a powerful recoil, but the muzzle will jump up quite high, very quickly. It settles back on target just as quick, but the first time really caught me by surprise.
I shot 50 rounds today, and could have shot 1,000 without any pain. This isn't like a 12 gauge or 30-06. It won't hurt you.
So how'd I do? :crying:
See Baby's first range target post...
