View Full Version : Counting rounds through Glock... stanggt9050 06-21-2008, 21:39 Do you keep track of how many rounds you have fired through your glock? SCC 06-21-2008, 21:54 why ? OD GASTON 06-21-2008, 21:56 I loose count (or don't care) after the first few box's. As long as it functions fine.:wavey::wavey: king-of-typos-91 06-21-2008, 22:01 why ? I am not a big fan of +1 post, but +1.. Boris Bush 06-21-2008, 22:01 When I had a 17L I counted pounds of powder. I did 30 pounds of Viht N330 at less than 7 grains a round. That was 30,000+ rounds from just that one powder........ stanggt9050 06-21-2008, 22:03 why ? Just plain curious, thats all:cool: THEPOPE 06-21-2008, 22:04 I counted until I fired around 11,000 th round....now I estimate , and am at about 21,000 rounds with only a couple glitches in all those rounds.... Mout, I am....yup... kelsitone 06-21-2008, 22:12 I keep a spreadsheet of rounds through all of my guns. Until earlier this year I had round counts for guns I no longer owned. I like to know how many rounds are through my guns, especially my carry guns. It helps me know when to do things like detailed cleaning and spring replacement. And it's handy to have a round count if you sell a gun. Southcross1 06-21-2008, 22:20 Do you keep track of how many rounds you have fired through your glock? No, I do not. joehammer75 06-21-2008, 22:23 I too keep a log of every round fired through many of my guns. Such as style of bullet and if any problems came up. Some feel its strange,, but thats what makes this country great,, do what ya want. tone 06-21-2008, 22:25 used to, not anymore... would rather focus on shootin and not countin... JimBianchi 06-21-2008, 23:08 I only own one .45. I've bought 4,000 plus rounds in two years. I have 1,200 on hand. (I just counted) I know it's been 2,000+ since I cleaned my G30. I was running an experiment on how long to go between cleanings, but lost tract of exact numbers So my G30 has about 2,800 down range. ArtificialGrape 06-22-2008, 00:07 Yep, I'm a bit anal that way. Spreadsheet with date, and rounds by specific ammo. I even have columns for failure by type -- in case I ever have a failure  I have an other spreadsheet with all the ammo types I've used, the cost per box/round, current inventory boxed, inventory loaded into mags, and total value. Then I have subtotals such as: 9mm practice, 9mm sd, total 9mm, .40 practice, .40 sd, total .40, total practice, total sd, total. Excel does all the math, it just takes a minute to update whenever I purchase or fire ammo. Like I said, I'm anal that way. Jack23 06-22-2008, 00:35 I have some guns that were owned by someone else before I got them. But all the guns that I get new I keep shooting logs on all of them. Each time I go to the range when I get home I pull the log for the guns I took that day and make entries. Date, Location, number of rounds fired, Brand and type of ammo used. and a section for any comments as to occurrences or performace of gun/ammo, etc. I enjoy looking back and being aware of the history of my guns. I find it interesting to look back on a gun I've had a while and see how many rounds I've fired through it. And spend an hour wishing I had all that money back. Not sure why I do it, really, I don't sell guns I buy them so it isn't like I need the info for a prospective buyer. It's just something I like to do. NotSoFast 06-22-2008, 00:41 Once I broke it in I quit counting. If I change a part or modify it, I'll keep track for a couple hundred rounds or so, but no need to after that. As somebody already said, it's more fun to shoot than to count. Cyroceon 06-22-2008, 09:02 I also have an excel spreadsheet detailing the dates I shoot, what type of ammo used(grain sizes, bullet type, etc.), how many round of that ammo, and it automatically tabulates the total rounds fired in a separate column. I also have a column for 'Malfunctions" and I believe that will probably never be used. It only takes me a few seconds after I clean the gun when I get home to just go in and type a few things and click save. This way, 20 years down the line, I know exactly what my gun has been through. Elliott 06-22-2008, 09:12 I keep round counts of all my guns. cmbf117 06-22-2008, 09:20 I do, see the sig. The plan is to count until I get a malfunction. So far so good. DanDinkus 06-22-2008, 14:49 its easy to count the rounds in my 23....... 0.... so sad its killing me i wanna get some rounds in it soon tampashooters 06-22-2008, 15:40 I also have an excel spreadsheet detailing the dates I shoot, what type of ammo used(grain sizes, bullet type, etc.), how many round of that ammo, and it automatically tabulates the total rounds fired in a separate column. I also have a column for 'Malfunctions" and I believe that will probably never be used. It only takes me a few seconds after I clean the gun when I get home to just go in and type a few things and click save. This way, 20 years down the line, I know exactly what my gun has been through. Dang, I do the same exact thing. 686Owner 06-22-2008, 15:45 I have the spreadsheet thing too, but only for my glock & S&W 642 which I bought new. I listed the brand of ammo that I shot thru it as well. J1Z06 06-22-2008, 16:01 i do on most of my guns. with the exception of my makarov's. with those there's no need. they're 20+ years old. who knows what the count is...but it's a good idea to keep an idea of the count just for peace of mind. if maybe a spring goes or whatever, at least you have an idea of what kind of wear it could be subjected to. not a bad idea. sidewinder6 06-22-2008, 16:03 Just in round numbers for things like ordering spare parts and new springs. Cross-X 06-22-2008, 16:04 Nope. RevDerb 06-22-2008, 16:23 Do you keep track of how many rounds you have fired through your glock? Until you brought it up and I read the replies, I hadn't even considered it but I believe that I will start with the spreadsheet thing. Agent6-3/8 06-22-2008, 16:52 I don't keep a serious round count, but as a reloader, I've generally got an idea of how many rounds I've loaded up and put through a gun. SVTNate 06-22-2008, 16:58 I keep an exact round count on all my guns, all bought NIB so I know for sure, and I only shoot in multiples of 100 so any given gun I own will have 200, 300, 700, etc. rounds through it. I simply listed all my guns in a Word document and edit it every time I shoot. My G19 has 1,900 rounds through it currently, and still looks new aside from incredibly minor wear on the finish of the locking block and where it rubs the inside of the slide, and some very very minor polished spots on the frame from my holster. lastevolution 06-22-2008, 17:21 I keep ballpark figures. Keeping exact counts? If you really do train with your handgun (like at a class) you'll learn to not worry about those things. SVTNate 06-22-2008, 17:47 Not true. When I take defensive classes, I tear a piece off every box of ammo I go through and put it in my range bag. At the end of the class, it's never a problem to stick around and shoot some more. Then, I've got a bunch of pieces of ammo boxes in my range bag, and I just count them up. Easy. Or let's say I shoot 600-something rounds, and have some left over. I know that the next time I take that gun to the range, I'll shoot the leftover ammo through it (set it aside in a Ziploc bag) and then I'll have an even 700 rounds through the gun. shooter757 06-22-2008, 17:59 yes, on a spreadsheet Copis 06-22-2008, 18:02 I keep track stanggt9050 06-22-2008, 18:12 Wow, lots of varied answers, more replies than I expected. Thanks to all for replying. As of now I have a general idea of rounds through each of my guns but I think I might do a spreadsheet for all future rounds. I think keeping track of rounds through the barrel are a good idea, especially if there is ever a possibility of selling or trading your gun. another okie 06-22-2008, 18:15 Only for my Glock 17. Every time I buy another thousand rounds of Blazer I mark the new case. I'm on #19. bennwj 06-22-2008, 18:37 I also have an excel spreadsheet detailing the dates I shoot, what type of ammo used(grain sizes, bullet type, etc.), how many round of that ammo, and it automatically tabulates the total rounds fired in a separate column. I also have a column for 'Malfunctions" and I believe that will probably never be used. It only takes me a few seconds after I clean the gun when I get home to just go in and type a few things and click save. This way, 20 years down the line, I know exactly what my gun has been through. I thought I was the only person here who did this. Glad to see somebody else does he same. It makes me feel less crazy. My Dad was a benchrest shooter and logging rounds through his rifles was something he did and I picked up on it. I don't do it for any of my .22 pistols, but everything else gets logged. Short Cut 06-22-2008, 18:45 I keep a pocket size spiral notebook in my shooting bag. While my gun is cooling, after shooting and before I put it in my shooting bag, I note how many rounds were fired, what type of ammo and any issues. It only takes a minute and the cooling off time is plenty to get it done. It helps because I also make notes of when I replace parts, detail strip/clean etc. And noting the rounds lets me know when it is time to do these routine maintenance items. scttlthn 06-22-2008, 18:48 never kept track, but after reading you guys' replies, maybe i should. R*E 06-22-2008, 19:00 Yes, it's so easy to count with a spreadsheet. EdMan63 06-22-2008, 19:33 It was in my head before this thread. But it was easy since I just purchased my second gun and my first is only a month old. Normally multiples of 100. Started a spreadsheet today. J825 06-22-2008, 21:25 I've been keeping track and I'll probably continue. I'm at 200 rounds so far across two trips out shooting. I think this week when I go I'm probably going to run through a couple hundred more and see how she does. EAGLESFANPHILA 06-22-2008, 21:50 Uh, no. My Glock has nothing to prove. It knows what it can do. Big Al 24 06-23-2008, 03:10 My G17 has 1619 failure free rounds exactly (I have been keeping track ) counting the 2 empty casings sent with the pistol from Glock. fubb 06-23-2008, 05:13 no but wife does $4,327.16 and counting. not too bad for 6 months, only 305.02 ahead of last year. been thinking of reloading, but need more time. SVTNate 06-23-2008, 05:20 Oh, and I'll add that I only keep track of total rounds. I don't care how many on each range trip, on what day, what type of ammo, etc. If a gun was problematic I would keep notes, maybe, but more likely just sell it. If my memory serves me right, none of the guns I own have ever failed in any way shape or form, not once. My previous CMMG AR did not like Radway Green mil-surp ammo, but I used it up and the rifle instantly ran 100% when I started using either Winchester Q3131A or XM193. Flared_Nostrils 06-23-2008, 05:31 I've been saving my ammo boxes just for kicks... Usually fire all pistols at the range equally so I suppose I can divide the total saved box amount by the number of pistols to get a good idea for any reason... (Resale, curiousity, etc) Now I'm re-using the ammo boxes to store the "loose rounds" I've been buying in bulk... (Guess I should keep track of how often I re-use them) vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
