I was amazed at just how fat the G21 and G21SF are. Had the opportunity to test drive them side by side at a local shop yesterday. I have big hands, but the double stack format grip just doesn't feel nearly as comfortable at a traditional 1911. How in the heck does anyone really grip one of these?

No flaming here.....to me the grip is a little big , but the perceived recoil is
much lighter than a 1911. Makes it doable for my smallish hands.:wavey:

I have a GLock 21 , and love it...
But I must agree, it is as comfy and natural feeling as a 2x4 with plastic wrapped around it..
Everyone really owes it to themselves to hold a Smith M&P45 with the small backstrap installed! Feels like a 1911 grip....which is a good thing!
(As I love 1911s too, mine has the ambi frame safety, but no mag safety)

The overall grip dimensions of the G21 series ... at the bottom half of the grip ... is why I never bought one.
Ditto the overall size of the HK USP & SW99 chambered in .45 ACP.
All of the above are why I finally chose a M&P 45 (Earth Brown w/thumb safeties) as my first polymer-framed .45 pistol.
Of course, I already own 8 metal-framed .45's. ;)
I could adapt to using any of them as an issued weapon, but when it comes to spending my own money on one, it was the M&P 45.
BTW, I certainly agree that just holding the M&P 45 with each of the grip inserts made me strongly suspect the smallest insert would be the 'best' out on the firing line during live fire.
Oddly enough, it turned out that while the smallest insert 'felt the best' in my hand, just holding it, doing various drills and target transitions made it clear that the medium insert actually gave me the best consistent results. Humph ... :dunno:
Same thing as a different sized steering wheel in a new/rented car... you get used to it.
I've got the G20. I've also got moderate to medium sized hands. Its a big fr&*ging gun. I got comfortable with it after a couple hundred rounds. But now, after 1500+ rounds I went to the range yesterday and it felt weird.
So its just a matter of practice. Best to shoot a couple of times a week, I guess, for the first couple thousand rounds. I try to hold it a little most every day. Sometimes, its actual grip work, others its just holding it and seeing where my fingers fall.... but I think that's helped.
Still a great gun.

I own a Glock 22 3rd generation and I find it too small for my hands. So I want to move towards the 21 but it may just be the finger grooves are too small. When I shoot the bottom of the trigger gaurd always hurts my middle finger but sometimes the trigger bar puts a blister on my finger.
Well I must be crazy but I find the G21 to fit my hands better than most 1911 .45's. In fact I added a rubber sleeve to my G21.

I had to file the finger grooves and do the candle trick on the hump to make it more comfortable. I have owned 1911 for some 20 odd years and was thinking about a para 14 when the glock 20 came to my consciousness.
now i am selling my other weapons.
it does take more of a concerted effort to get the grip down but once you do it becomes second nature.
There are some posts that will help with the glock knuckle. Nothing a little sanding can't take care of.

I held a full-size Glock a few weeks ago, and they are too big for me. The compacts are far as I can go. I love the G19 and G32. They fit my hands perfectly. I have the G19 but I think the G32 may wind up joining the family as well.

Don't ask me why but I have small to medium hands and I prefer the large frame glocks to the small and medium. I believe that for the large calibers that they come in the larger grip helps to control muzzle flip and twist.
Just my .02:cool:

my hands are not big and I find my 21SF to be perfect. :dunno:
