Hello. I walked into a store in las vegas with OC and the clerk told me if I have a CCW and I told him yes I do have a CCW. He told me that it's illegal to open carry with your registered CCW gun and that I can ONLY open carry with a gun that is not in CCW.
Could anybody make a clarification on this. I've been open carrying once in a while specially when it's hot outside or whenever I'm inside the car driving. I've been pulled over three times by LEO because of my brake lights problem and I was open carrying the LEO always ask me if I have a CCW and I tell them Yes, they run the serial number and they give the gun back with no problem.
I don't know where this gun clerks got this information he said that they'd pull my CCW and that was brandishing because it was the gun registered for CCW.
Thanks in advace for any input.

You're store clerk is absolutely wrong. Your CCW makes concealed carry optional, not mandatory.

I don't remember if you have to have a CCW to open carry in NV like you do in GA, but I do not think so.

He's a gun store clerk....'nuff said!! LOL..Unless they changed the rules (which I doubt) open carry doesn't require any serial #s. The only reason you need to have the serial # for your CCW guns is to prove proficiency for the CCW shooting qualification. Open carry doesn not require any qualification. You can carry whatever you want. And NO you do NOT need a CCW to open carry in NV.

Thanks Ken. Didn't want to say something of which I was unsure. Can't OC in my state. The only place I OC with any regularity is GA, and they require a CCW to CC and OC.

Are you allowed to open carry even with the gun listed as your CCW ?

Yes! Any handgun that you can legally possess.

Ken

p.s; Be aware of the Clark County gun registration requirement.

Nevada and Michigan just recently got reciprocity worked out, I remember something about having to stop into Clark County PD offices for something. Is that what you're referring to? Exactly what do you have to do to make everything nice and legal?

If you are a resident of Clark County for "A period of at least 60 days" you are required to register your "firearm capable of being concealed" within 72 hours of you having said firearm in Clark County.

http://www.lvmpd.com/permits/firearms_registration.html

If you are just visiting this does not apply to you.

I'm just wondering what gun store this was. I'm guessing, and it's just my guess that it was either on Boulder Highway or Spring Mountain. This is a good opportunity where some legal printouts of state laws given to the store manager would be a good thing.

I've had my Nevada CCW for about 3 years. I remember when taking my class that the instructor (police trainer of sorts) (the Gun Store o Tropicana) told us that if we were caught open carrying a weapon we had a CCW for that Sheriff Keller would revoke our CCW. This never made any sense to me. Glad to hear that such is not the case.

Blue card only for residents of Clark County to Open Carry.

If it is private property, they can ask you to leave.

If you don't, it trespassing, not a gun crime.(everyone knows that, I know.....)

To many tourist and sheep in Clark County I'd just as soon not spend a hour explaining my side to Metro.

Use your CCW.

(If I did not live so close to North Las Vegas I might be tempted to OC, but I haven't temped fate yet. For everyone not in Nevada, NLV PD s very very very very un-friendly to anyone with a gun. YMMV)

Its the store on Blue Diamond Highway and Las Vegas blvd. It's called Las Vegas Gun Range and Firearms Center. Maybe we should send them some printeouts of the law.

I'm dumbfounded that you have a CCW permit in your home state of Nevada and you still don't understand the laws that regulate the legal carrying of a firearm in Nevada? You don't know whether you were or were not committing a crime by open carrying in Las Vegas?

Me thinks that you had best study up on your state laws before you wind up dead because of some foolish action on your part.

PM me or call me at the number on my website linked from GlockTalk. I'll retrain you on this and some other misunderstood crap. I'll do it for free.

In fact, if there are any L.V. guys/gals who want you questions answered, maybe we could all get together for a little while and review the highlights and have some fun meeting each other. This has worked out well in the past and there are several of us here in the valley.

Don't be shy.
