Any of you gents had the courage to remove the black finish of the slide?
I kindda made a boo boo on my slide and unintentionally had one side kindda polished with a 2000grit sandpaper because there were some smudge hoppes can't remove and when I did that boo boo it removed the black altogether and now I am thinking of making it a satin finish sort of a Glock.
Any pics?
Any methods?
Any precautions?
Seriously I'm afraid to do it.

I've heard of people buffing the slide.
The color comes out to be a grey.
If I was to do it. I'd rub the slide down with 0000 wool till the spot you sanded is blended to the rest. The slide needs to be detailed striped. The wool gets in all the crannies. Becareful of the sights. Clean the slide good afterwards. Make sure the wool is out of every hole.
You've already made a spot. It won't hurt anymore to rub down the slide. If you can't stand the look. Now you have a damn good excuse for hard chrome or duracoat.

Thanks southcross1 I happen to be in the denial phase still and just avoid looking at it, let me just sum up all my courage to do this buffing procedure.

As you rub...just think "Hard chrome if this doesn't work."
But the outer black rubs off all the time. She'll just look like she's been in a holster most of her life.
You might even like the look.

You mean there is no CHROMING in this process, but just the material itself of Glock buffed to a mirror finish.
It looks GREAT man.

If you find the look too bright, you can rub it lightly with a fine scotchbrite pad for that S&W stainless look.
Or you can rub it down with 000 wool and fritz polish, it will give it a vintage, worn stainless look.
Every time you want to brighten it back up, just rub it again. I do the same thing with a Stainless Ruger New Vaquero. It buffs out the fine handling scratches.
I've polished a S&W 5909 to the same degree. It does take time and a little skill to keep the edges sharp.
If you have one of the Pilot or TA truck stops near by. They sell all the polish compounds and buffer wheels. From felt to sewed muslin at some of the real big ones. To include CANS of Fritz polish.

Wow that really looks good!
Do they remove the tennifer to get it that shiny?

Im not sure if the tennifer is on the slide or a treatment in the metal. This is only glock I've had polished.I'll leave the other one's stock.

can''t you just put it in your tumbler if you have one? this what i would do if i would like an ss like finish
If you remove the finish to bare metal, you will also remove the Tennifer treatment as the Tennifer only goes down into the metal a few microns. So you would have to put a protective coat like clear duracoat or keep the slide oiled up to keep it from corroding.

From Wikipedia:
"Glock, an Austrian firearms manufacturer, utilizes this process to protect the slides of the pistols they manufacture. The Tenifer finish on a Glock is the third and final hardening process. It is 0.05 millimeters thick and produces a 64 Rockwell C (diamond cone) hardness rating via a 500 °C nitride bath. The final matte, non-glare finish meets or exceeds stainless steel specifications, is 85% more corrosion resistant than a hard chrome finish, and is 99.9% salt-water corrosion resistant. After the Tenifer process, a black Parkerized finish is applied and the slide is protected even if the finish were to wear off. Several other pistols also use this process including the Walther P99 and Steyr M/S series."

Just call Glock, Georgia, and tell them that you need your slide refinished, and they will tell you how, I can't remember who to talk to, but they will be able to direct your call.

Only downside, is they no longer do the old style refinishing. So if you want to restore your 1st Gen G17 or something, you're out of luck.

Correct, they only do the new glossy finish, not the old Matte finish
