View Full Version : Shooting my Glocks vs Sigs

I went to the range this past weekend and shot a little bit of everything.
Sig 229 DAK .40 (mine)
Sig 226 9mm (dads)
Glock 30
Ruger Mark III
I love my 229 but I just can't shoot the damn thing. :brickwall: Maybe it's the DAK trigger, sights, grip??? I am much faster/accurate with my Glocks (30, 21). I've also shot the G23 and I'm still more accurate with that than my 229 in .40, which rules out the caliber being the problem. My dad told me I should think about selling the Sig to get another Glock. I've always wanted a G19 and I've never shot a 9mm Glock before and I think it would be sweeeeeeeeet.
I'm hesitant to get rid of the Sig because it was a gift and it's a beautiful gun, but it doesn't do me much good if I'm so inconsistent shooting it. :dunno: What do you think? What would you do? Thanks!
what exactly is the DAK trigger ? I've always wondered about that. i know my glock26 trigger could certainly be a little smoother...

DAK is a long DAO. It's nothing like the Glock its more like a revolver. Get a G19.

I have the P229 DA/SA and it shoots more accurately than the P229DAK. The DAK trigger requires lots of getting used to compare to the glock's trigger.

Im not found of the DAK. The normal DA/SA is fine. The SA will trump a Glock trigger any day. Im much more accurate with my Sigs than my 19.

maybe the solution is to trade the 229 DAK for a 229 DA/SA?

Yes, good idea. I just can't believe that the DAK is the official issue of NCIS (not the TV show which sneakingly uses the DA/SA version).

My 229 is a better shooter than my glocks. It is a DA/SA

When's the last time you saw a Sig DAK winning in serious competition? If it's too hard to shoot fast and accurately in competition, it doesn't make sense to pay more for it as a self-defense gun, when the competition winners can be had for much less.

Can a DAK be converted to DA/SA?

Sigs suck, sorry guys, I just traded a P228 for a G23 much better gun every way you look at it.

First of all DAK's truly suck. The absolute worst trigger on earth if you ask me. Second, for someone to say Sigs suck, well, you don't exactly enhance your credibility by stating something that everyone else on earth knows is not true.

Just my opinion, after 40 years of shooting just about every gun on the market and some that are not. Sigs are accurate and reliable but the ergonomics are all wrong!!
Both Sig and Glocks have their pros and cons. I shoot Sigs much better then I do Glocks. Since your Sig was a gift ("free") why not hold on to it anyway?

I have about the same amount of shooting experience as you, but just because Sigs may be ergonomically wrong for you personally , it does not make 'Glocks better in every way', as you originally stated. I would put Sigs and Glocks about equal reliability wise, and certainly Sigs are definitively better, albeit slightly, from an accuracy perspective.
These views in no way include the Sig line of 1911's, which I would consider pretty crappy in general, and IMO should never have been attempted. Maybe they've gotten better recently, but the original ones were garbage. If you want a reliable 1911, buy a Colt, if you want a reliable polymer pistol, buy a Glock, if you want a reliable metal pistol, buy a Sig (if you can afford it). I bought both my Sigs used as W German LE trade ins. Both were pretty much like new in box, over 20 years old, and are stone cold reliable, and accurate as hell.

I have the same dilema only with my USPc, I love the gun, sentimentally attached to it, but I can't shoot it nearly as good as I can shoot mine or anyone elses Glock. You know the answer you will get on this board, but only you can make the final decision on weather or not to pull the trigger (figuratively) and trade it for the Glock.
For me, GLOCK gets the nod in almost every category (I.E. size, weight, capacity, durability, finish, polygonal rifling, value, simplicity, etc. I could go on), but the primary advantage I find in Sig is so far ahead on my priority list that it actually outweighs all of the above- that is ergonomics as a whole, and more specifically comfort level with the T.D.A. trigger. For others, that could be exactly backwards, their priorities ranked different, or EVERY advantage lines up with GLOCK for them (I.E. in B.R.'s case)!
But if I had to have the D.A.K. in a Sig, I would just assume it be a GLOCK (shorter, lighter pull, shorter reset). Apparently it costs a couple of hundred to have Sig replace a D.A.K. with T.D.A., considerably less if you D.I.Y. obviously (I really wanted an S.A.S. P220, but with T.D.A. trigger)!
Good luck O.P., hopefully you figure out whether it works for you or not. If it was a gift, they'd probably rather know you have something you're enjoying out of it than that exact one and it not getting shot (well)... so list it as a W.T.T. for a T.D.A. P229 (instead of selling), as you know someone else out there just loves theirs as you do, except... for that damn inconsistent T.D.A. trigger L.O.L.!
