So I wont need to buy any 22lr for a while.

My closest Super Wal Mart marked down the Federal 550rnd 22lr value packs to $9.99. Along with the Remington Golden Bullet packs to $11.34. Combine this with a 10% discount card, that equates to one damn good deal!!!

Before this I had about ~13,000rnds of 22lr.

I just bought what's in the picture below - can you guess how many??

http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o233/codybrons/22ammo.jpg

Sorry for the pic quality.

OK, I'll save you the work of counting the packs. 78 Federal and 2 Remington Golden bullet, totalling 44,000rnds of 22lr added to my stash.

BEAT THAT!

CLIFF NOTES: 44,000rnds of ammo + white german shepherd = WIN

From the box specs, it seems the Remington has a slight advantage over the Federal...

Both 36 grain, plated hollow point

Velocity at muzzle: Federal 1260 fps, Remington 1280 fps
Velocity at 100 yds: Federal 1000 fps, Remington 1010 fps
Energy at muzzle: Federal 125 ft lbs, Remington 131 ft lbs
Energy at 100 yds: Federal 80 ft lbs, Remington 82 ft lbs

Okay, so maybe those numbers are close enough to be called equal.

But then, here's the kicker:

Drop at 100 yds: Federal 5.6", Remington 1.8".

What happened?

grindchug
06-23-2008, 16:01
that remington won't feed in my .22 pistol so I stick with the Federal

What was the clerk's reaction?

Clerk at the ammo counter said it only takes one box to rob a bank.

Clerk at the register went like this:

Clerk- Holy **** is all that ammo for you?

Me - yup

Clerk - what do you use it for?

Me - shooting

Clerk - what do you shoot it out of???

Me - guns

Clerk - what kind of guns?

Me - guns that you shoot

Then he sensed I just wanted him to STFU and bag my damn ammo so he shut up.

Yep Computer Guy....that's a dandy deal. I buy my 22lr Federal 550 round packs at Adventure Outdoors (they don't jam in my Walther like the Remington brand) for the same price, $9.99.

22lr ammo is sooooooooo cheap!!! :wavey:

I just bought a new 8 shot Revolver 22L. Ammo is getting so expensive but 22l seems like its always a deal.

But I do remember buying a box of federal at walmart 7 years ago for 6 bucks.

Federal > Remington.

Nice purchase, did they wheel it out for you? I used to buy out all the bulk .223 before they raised the price.

Federal > Remington.

Nice purchase, did they wheel it out for you? I used to buy out all the bulk .223 before they raised the price.

No, they wouldn't even provide me with a box, and I had to double bag 95% of it myself. In fact I had to walk behind the ammo counter and load all of it into my cart myself!

I bought 50 boxes then found out the discount card worked, so I went back and bought 30 more.

It's still not a lifetime supply by any means.

If you take all my 22lr ammo, I should shoot 1k rounds a month for 4 years and 4 months. It's real easy to shoot 1k .22lr rounds in a month...

300,000 rounds would be an adequate supply in my opinion. That's 1k rounds a month for 25 years.

Now for the real question, what kind of barrel life should I expect out of that 22/45 in the picture??? My new favorite pistol btw...

1k rounds of .22LR a month? It should be like a brick a week! Lessee, at 550 x52 we get 28,600 per year. So that 57,000 rounds you now have on hand will last roughly 1.99 years. That's not near as long as I thought it would last! :whistling:

Actually, your 1k rounds a month sounds pretty close to my rate. I figure a brick will go roughly 2 weeks shooting once per week. Maybe 2.5 of those 550 packs a month, or equivalent of total ammo. Hard to include those 100 counts of Mini-Mags, Green Tag, CB Shorts, or Winchesters. And then those silly little 50-rd boxes! What a pain those are! Seriously, who only buys 50 rounds of .22 ammo at a time? :dunno:

Good luck wearing out the 22/45. Those low-velocity lead .22 bullets don't do much barrel harm. I remember guys talking about 10/22s at the range with over 1 million rounds on them. They said the holes for the bolt-stops were worn oval, but the buggers still worked fine. And they "might" have swapped a barrel or two on them at some point. Still....

Good luck with the 22/45, mine was a complete POS, I switched to a Beretta Neos and couldn't be happier.

Remington tends to jam a little more often in my .22s which is a pity because it definitely has a little more pep than the Federal load.

I went to Walmart in Hudson, NH, where I've been buying the Rem .22 550 pack for 13.39 for months...

BAM! 15.47 a box now. After I picked my jaw off the floor at the literally overnight 15% price increase I figured what the hey, so I bought 10 boxes figuring it isn't likely ammo's going to get cheaper any time soon.

The .22 Advantage Arms kit still beats feeding my G17 with a couple hundred 9mm rounds each range trip tho, so I guess I can suck it up.

I bought 1000 rounds of winchester for my .44 special a couple years ago. My gun guy thought I was getting ready to go hunting for a predator who was up before the parole board. He didn't get out...but I told my gun guy I wouldn't be buying that c**p if that were the case...I would be buying Gold Dot, and only 1 box would be plenty. If it took more than 1 magazine to make him quit twitching, I would concede to needing more range time.

Funny. I just came from Wal Mart where I picked up 700 rds of 9mm WWB. My wonderful sales clerk put the boxes in one bag. As I'm leaving at the front register, the bag starts breaking and one box of 100 rds falls out all over the floor. What a thing to be cleaning up of the floor. FMJ bullets for all to see.

You do know that all of that new .22LR ammo only has a 6 month life expectancy, and then the primer compound goes stale, right? The ATF also has to pull each bullet every 2 months, in order to recharge the glowing compound used on the serial number ID on the base of each bullet too.

Oh, I forgot.... that would be for the CA-approved ammo only. :tongueout:

NOTE: Before any gets upset, the above is just a joke (for now.... :whistling:)

Since I only shoot game with my .22 I only go through about 300 rounds a year. That is a lot of dead stuff. I mainly shoot Stingers. I stocked up when they were 2.99 a box. I like the Federals too.

Just what do you shoot with 1000 rounds a month?

I used to shoot action games with my S&W686 and used to shoot 1000 rounds a month for practice. I got pretty good with that pistol. I can't imagine how good I would be if my vision was still that good and still shot that much.
