After numerous chronograph sessions with some 200gr. Double Tap XTP and some really dissappointing results, I bought a few (expensive) boxes of Buffalo Bore.
DT's 200gr. xtp consistently clocked at 1106fps in my G20 - not anywhere close to the advertised 1250fps on the box. Not cool. I reclocked it again while testing the Buffalo Bore loads and this time the average was a whopping 1113fps. DT's 200gr. loads in a G29 came in at 1072.5fps.
Buffalo Bore sells 180 and 200gr. 10mm loads. The 200gr. is advertised at 1200fps and the 180gr. at 1350fps (both in a 5" barrel - I think). I didn't get to try the 200gr. load as it was not in stock.
Here are the results for the BB 180gr. Gold Dot JHC. Measured at approx. 12'.
G20 average = 1272fps G29 average = 1222fps.
Result Summary
180 gr. (Buffalo Bore)
(G20) 1272fps = 647ftlbs = 228,960 (power factor or momentum)
(G29) 1222fps = 597ftlbs = 219,960 (power factor or momentum)
200gr. (Double Tap)
(G20) 1113fps = 550ftlbs = 222,600 (power factor or momentum)
(G29) 1072.5fps = 511ftlbs = 214,500 (power factor or momentum)
Perhaps Buffalo Bore is money well spent.
