I'm not questioning the value of the cartridge, I am asking why this may or may not be right for me. There is a sweet deal locally on a Remington XR-100 in .204 Ruger. My understanding is that it is strictly a varmint round and I don't have the opportunity to go varmint shooting. Is it a useful round just for poking holes in paper? Is it of any use in any competition shooting?
Thanks
If the bullet is large enough for you and the deal is good enough, I'd go for it. Otherwise, if I was looking specifically for an itty bitty bullet, I think I'd go for a .17 of some variety (more shooters, ammo availability, advice, etc.).
My preference is for magnum and ultra magnum stuff, so I'm probably not the best commenter about a .204.
No reason to buy a .204 if you are not going to varmint hunt. Unless you reload it will get expensive. A .223 should work just fine for target practice.
sure, why not? it's fast, shoots flat very acurate in the one AR i've seen. a real hoot to shoot
