View Full Version : 9mm vs. 45
Hello,
I am wondering the difference in recoil between a 9mm and a .45 acp. I am just a bit concerned because of the gunpowder difference between the calibers is about double depending on the ammo. If it helps, the gun in question would weigh about 5 pounds (dont ask ). I can shoot 9mm like its candy, and I've shot 357 magnum without any problems. Any help would be great!
Thanks,
Buzz :wavey:
Hmm. When I reload 9mm and .45 I use almost exactly the same powder charge of Bullseye. And, both loads are within spec and function the stock guns fine. Both calibers are a breeze to shoot. If you can shoot .357 you can handle either of these.

Out of those three calibers, I feel the most recoil from the 357 mag. The 45 acp has boomy slow recoil and the 9mm has a quick sharp recoil.
IMO, most fun to shoot is the 45acp, then the 9mm and last is the 357 mag. 38 sp would be tied with the 9mm.
I have to ask, what gun are you shooting that weighs 5 lbs?
Actually, it would be more like 7 pounds. If you have to know . . . . a buddy of mine has a semi auto uzi in 45 acp. I currently own a 9mm and was just a little nervous about the recoil. I checked out the ammo difference and the 9mm is about 115 gr average, and the 45 acp is about 230 gr average; about double depending on ammo.

FLAME ON! IBTL...
j/k.
I prefer 9mm, I like a smaller snap vs a push in my felt recoil.

Your UZI recoils? Mine is a lead brick................

In my not-so-humble opinion, IF you can handle a stout .357 magnum, you can easily handle the .45 acp or the 9mm Parabellum.
I know of people that are 'intimidated' by the .45 acp, but, will shoot a .44 magnum without any reservations.
:wow:
Ya know. . . it's that magical "5" behind the "4" that freaks people out.:rofl:
just a shooter

that is the weight of the projectile, not the powder charge.
both 9mm and .45 are *****cats to shoot.
enjoy.
The 9mm is snappy, but returns to target much easier than the .45. The .45 feels like a slow push.
Both are easily manageable for quick follow-up with correct technique.
Oh, okay. Yea, thanks for clearing that up about that being the bullet weight and not the powder charge so I don't sound like a dumb*** in the future . .. I thought it shouldn't be too bad since a lot of people have 1911s, but I just wanted to make sure.

Should have gotten the Ingram
I do not own the uzi. My friend owns the uzi and said he would let me try it out the next time we went shooting. I was just concerned that the recoil might be too much.
