View Full Version : Accidental S&W 29
Well, I bought a Model 29 this week. Somewhat by accident. I was sure I was going to be outbid.
I have long been a fan of S&W .38s & .357s. This will be my first .44 of any style. Kind of getting exited about it getting here.
Looking forward to trying it. Though when I priced ammo, I started wondering about just buying a reloader right now. :wow:

Excellent. I love my 629 Classic.
Yep, you should give a serious look at reloading. There's the cost savings (I'm reloading for about half the cost of buying factory rounds - could get it down further if I started casting boolits), but I think the other thing is you'll be able to calm it down a bit for range day, or soop it up for hunting. I just worked up a load with a 200 gr JHP over some Unique powder, and while it's still a .44 mag (roughly 1350fps), it is much more comfortable to shoot than the standard 240 grain factory loads. Food for thought.
We want pics and a full range report.

Eh you won't save any money by reloading. But you will shoot more.
Been looking at a S&W 29 or 629 myself. Or maybe a deal on a Super Redhawk.

Yes that is true but you would be getting more for your money.

For cheap standard power .44mag ammo, the Winchester white box 240gr. JSP is pretty good. Shoots to the same point of aim for me as my deer round the Remington 240gr. JHP. And then, perhaps even cheaper is the Blazer 240gr JHP, also shooting to the same point of aim. So, all three are around 1180fps.
For .44 special, I like the Blazer 200 gr. JHP. They shoot to the same point of aim as the above mentioned rounds. And, of course, they are very low recoiling.

The 629 is the best 44 magnum there is IMO!.
I mean there are a few companys that make really great guns like Freedom Arms etc. but for the money you can not go wrong.
