View Full Version : Just picked up Imbel L1A1 sporter
and want to know where I can get a traditional synthetic pistol grip and stock also I guess what kind of sling is recommended/traditional.
I'm looking forward to taking it out this weekend, never fired a .308, much less in semi-auto.
It's a Century build on an Imbel reciever.
Call to check on Maranyl furniture:

Make sure you buy the butt stock tool and wear safety glasses.
Just got home and checked it out, bore seems really clean and unworn and the gun is tight, pretty happy with this purchase, can't wait to shoot it.
Inch or metric magazine cut?

OMG were the Century Drunken Monkeys actually cutting Inch magwells into Imbels???? :crying:

OP: be aware that you may have either 'metric' or 'ABC/inch/commonwealth' pattern parts (or both) built on the receiver.
*the buttstocks do not interchange so figure out what you have before ordering a replacement. you'll likely alter your 922r status by doing so....
also, century often ground off the lower's pistol grip stud when fitting the dumbhole stock. can be replaced. maybe gunpartsguy?
if your rifle's lower looks like the above (Brit.kit) pics it is ABC. the trigger & triggerguard profile is easy to differentiate between types. forgive my redundancy if this is already known to you.
AFA the sling; if ABC, late-style No4 SMLE would be about spot on.

All the Century FAL/L1A1's I ever saw were inch pattern, with the bolt cuts and everything. (Hate the butthole stocks though.)
I like the folding cocking handles, but that's about it for me regarding inch vs. metric.
Still, if it shoots well and the price was right, gjk5, ya done good!

Did this gun start out life as the Century L1A1 Sporter with the POS thumb hole stock? If so, I was interested in changing out stock and pistol grip on mine also. However, we researched this and are not so sure it would remain legal with the Imbel receiver without the thumbhole based on an ATF exemption that was alledgedly issued for that particular rifle in thumbhole configuration only. Can anybody comment?

NO MORE THAN 10 of the following applicable imported parts may be present.

Bolt
Bolt carrier
Operating rod (charging handle)
Gas piston
Trigger housing (lower receiver)

Pistol grip
Handguard
Magazine body
Magazine follower

they built a bunch on STG kits too a few years ago. can't rule anything out with that outfit.
And a bunch with metric cuts on Brit and Aussie lowers.
Thanks for all the info folks, it is indeed the same lower pictured above but with the butthole stock.
Looked online last night and seems there are readily available 922R kits for these. As far as the Century monkeys, I'm familiar with their work, but it varies (I've had WASR's that looked like hell and a Yugo that looks great) this one actually looks pretty good to my untrained eye.
As far as price, I paid $460 for it but put it on layaway a good while ago, the dealer told me yesterday he'd be glad to buy it back for a little over that if I wanted to get rid of it.
We'll see how it shoots this weekend hopefully.
I'll post some pics tonight.
Fulton Armory
TAPCO
Sportsman's Guide
Bushmaster
and.......Google it.

With their importation halted, the Imbel receivers alone are fetching that $ or near it. ya done good, especially if it runs ao can be made to.
Fulton Armory Nope
TAPCO metric FAL only stocks
Sportsman's Guide full parts kits only
Bushmaster mags only
and.......Google it.
not much on google search for inch pattern either
i don't believe anyone did US made marynyl-style ABC buttstocks or handguards. i think ERGO made marynyl-style ABC pistol grips, i read one report stating these recently discontinued.
figure out what (if any) US parts you have and go from there. you can find FSE hammer/trigger/sear for 3 (if not already century parts).
some floorplates make 4. FSE PG if you can get one = 5. a piston =6
if you've a neutered muzzle and stay that way 6 is all you need.
a US FH otherwise.
that'd allow for OE butt & hg anyway if that's what you want they can be found nice for not too much. various length buttpads are available as well to vary LOP a few inches.

Congrats!
