At oldnoob 06-25-2008, 23:24 interesting... JoshuaC 06-25-2008, 23:31 Like a polymer framed 1911? I'm pretty sure somebody makes them. GRR 06-25-2008, 23:35 No? Wilson KZ BUL M5 STI Eagle, VIP and 11 other polymer frame models glockk9mm 06-25-2008, 23:38 Doesn't Kimber make a polymer 1911? DanK 06-25-2008, 23:51 Para Ordnance is coming close to a 1911/Glock combo in their (Nit Tac -- spelling needs check). Double Stack, DAO, Glock style universal rail.... I think that if anyone tries to appease both Glock fans and 1911 fans again, they'd have to make it from polymer, or they would wind up with the Para (and resulting infringement suits). That being said, is that necessary? 1911s aren't really that heavy, especially for their size (granted I haven't fired a compact one). And I don't think you'll come up with something that appeals to the American aesthetic taste better than a wood and steel 1911.... (heck, I'm starting to drool just thinking of it). AustinTx 06-25-2008, 23:52 I believe it is a stretch of the imagination to refer to any polymer framed pistol as a 1911. I don't even consider a 1911 clone with an external extractor as a 1911. Most companies producing 1911A1 pistols evidently don't even know what makes it a A1. Most of them have flat MSH. I like the curved grip of a true 1911A1. I think Springfield, Colt and whoever builds the Thompson (kahr I think), build true 1911A1's. At ljnowell 06-26-2008, 00:20 Already built. It was in either guns or handguns magazine. Bar Sto the barrel maker is making them. They weigh in around 24oz. 13 round capacity. No word on price yet. AustinTx 06-26-2008, 00:29 I carried a 1911 45ACP a long time before I discovered Glock. I switched to a M-31 357Sig and really appreciate the lighter weight. It is a rugged gun. I carry it in this Houston humidity, sweat on it something fierce and I don't think you can make one rust. I have dropped that 31 at least twice, on concrete, without a scratch to show for it. At ashtxsniper 06-26-2008, 00:54 Kimber already did it with a high cap model. bac1023 06-26-2008, 01:18 Does anyone think a company will ever design a plastic 1911 pistol? Wilson already has one. I'll never buy one, that's for sure. JoshuaC 06-26-2008, 02:20 Wilson already has one. I'll never buy one, that's for sure. Sometimes it's just best to stay with the original creators design. A Glock should never go metal and a 1911 should never go polymer. bac1023 06-26-2008, 02:22 A Glock should never go metal That's happening too. JoshuaC 06-26-2008, 03:18 That's happening too. I know unfortunately. magiaaron 06-26-2008, 04:11 Sometimes it's just best to stay with the original creators design. A Glock should never go metal and a 1911 should never go polymer. There used to be a lot of criticism about "plastic" guns. Now, there's criticism of the GLOCK going metal? lol How the world goes in circles. I've seen some of those metal "race frames" someone is making for GLOCKs. They're nice little items, and seem to work great. And with a 1911, who knows? Maybe you'd like the trigger and slimness of a 1911 and the weight of a GLOCK? Both seem reasonable to me. :) -magiaaron Bubbala 06-26-2008, 05:42 Doesn't Kimber make a polymer 1911? If you want to call it that, yes. aglocker1911 06-26-2008, 06:43 I own a Wilson KZ45, and it is a great gun. It may not be for everybody (and what gun is?) but I'll put it up against any other sub 2K 1911 for fit, finish and function anyday. And btw, regardless of others personal opinions, it is indeed both a "1911" and a "Wilson". If you disagree, why don't you talk to Wilson and post their response? bac1023 06-26-2008, 07:49 I own a Wilson KZ45, and it is a great gun. I don't even like the double stacks or double action models. Forgoten214 06-26-2008, 07:54 Oh yeah, they are definately very well made 1911s. Ew double action 1911? bac1023 06-26-2008, 07:59 Ew double action 1911? Well, Para calls them 1911s, but they really aren't, in my book. They make a bunch and have for a long time. Here's one. http://www.para-usa.com/new/product_pistol.php?id=19 Forgoten214 06-26-2008, 08:11 Well, Para calls them 1911s, but they really aren't, in my book. Why not just get a different style pistol if you want double action? bac1023 06-26-2008, 08:16 Yeah I think those are gross. Why not just get a different style pistol if you want double action? Yep. I have quite a few DA pistols and like them, but I'll never own one of those things. I don't have a problem with Para's single action, single stack 1911s, but those make me want to :puking:. Yeah I dry fired one at Army Navy and i did not like it at all. bac1023 06-26-2008, 08:32 Yeah I dry fired one at Army Navy and i did not like it at all. I got the same reaction from the models I looked at. Forgoten214 06-26-2008, 08:43 I got the same reaction from the models I looked at. Yeah it was the double stack model though, It doesnt make much difference the action is basically the same in the Single stack and Double Stack LDAs. They still have it for sale if you like  griggrt 06-26-2008, 15:43 http://www.borelliconsulting.com/evals/guns/g1911.htm I dunno, just thought this link fit the thread. srothman 06-26-2008, 15:58 STI also makes double stacks, but they call them 2011's and not 1911's. I have fired several of their hi end competition guns and they are very nice, but not what I would consider a 1911. vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
