View Full Version : What do you think of the Sig Short trigger?
I've been thinking of getting a Sig P226 for a while and have kinda small hands. The DA trigger pull is pretty far out there for me but I can still kinda reach it.
I want to know what the short trigger will do to improve trigger reach. I've heard some people say it was a great improvement. Others have said that they didn't like it for various reasons. I would like to hear more opinions of it please.
I've been asking about and researching lots of different guns. I found a really good deal on a new P226 and that is the one I will get if the DA trigger reach can only be improved slightly.
Thanks.
No body has one? Maybe I should have put this in the Sig section.
IMHO...the short trigger is the only trigger I like in a DA SIG. I admit, I am not a big SIG fan. Having said that, they do make a great product and I know a lot of folks who love their SIGS.
The guns I am most familiar with are the SIG 220 .45 D/S (my favorite Sig)...SIG 229R and 226R .40 DAK. I do not love them due to their size and the fact they need to be wet to work. However, for the last few months I have been working the bugs out on them and I'm starting to warm up to them...a bit.
I have found that the "short" trigger does make the guns much easier to shoot and bring back on target for follow-up shots than the regular length trigger they come with.
Especially if one has short or stubby fingers...the short trigger is pretty much a mandatory item.

I LOVE the SRT trigger. I happen to find it is one of the finest on the market. I've yet to talk to a single person who does not prefer it.

I have a short trigger on my 228.... VAST improvement if you have small hands. I have some recollection of people with concerns, but I simply can't remember what it was. I also haven't experienced anything negative from my use.

+1. Versus the normal reset in the previous editions, the new SRT is much improved. Versus a 1911, well there's no comparison.
I prefer the short myself, just got a 229 in and putting one on it tonight.
For you with small hands I would say the short trigger is the way to go. I had one of my P220 but took off since it would pinch my finger during single action shots. If the P220 had been DAO or DAK I probably would have kept it.
I installed short triggers on both my 226 and 229. They work great.
.
For clarification the Short Trigger and the Short Reset Trigger are two different things.

Would you mind telling me what steps one would have to take in order to install an SRT in these pistols (including parts that would be needed, cost, etc.). Thanks for your help.

I installed one on my P229DAK. During extended range sessions the decocker hump on the grip was tearing up my thumb nuckle. I can shoot all day now no issue. BUT my accurracy is way down. Bruce Gray does not like them at all and sells an intermidate trigger. The issue I have is that you have to curl your finger too much at the rearward trigger travel. My P229 does not have any real over travel so a trigger stop would not really help. Then again for combat style shooting I can still nail a 8 1/2 by 11 target (chest sized) at 25 foot or less.
The current regular Sig trigger is the reason I don't own any Sigs anymore.

You beat me to it in mentioning this fact:supergrin:. I just recently sent in my new P220 Carry to Sig Sauer for some custom work - the short trigger reset conversion service and the and the action enhancement package service. I just got the pistol back last week. Looking forward in shooting it this weekend. A shooting buddy had these action services done to his P226 and it shot great with a much, much, better trigger action and shorter trigger reset. It costed a good size coin but I feel it is worth it compared to what the stock trigger setup felt like.

I have the short trigger on my p239. I bought it used and didn't know about the short vs standard trigger. The only thing I can say is when I take people to go shoot they sometimes think there is something wrong with the gun after the first shot. They think that becouse the trigger is so far back that the gun should have already fired. Something that isn't really important but its the only "negative" thing I could think of. I haven't tried the standard trigger and would like too. I have no problems with the short trigger personally though. The trigger is so sweet and crisp in single action I wish I could carry it cocked and locked sometimes.

As I understand it the SRT (short RESET trigger) consists of two pieces and can only be purchased at Sig in Exeter, or if you send your pistol in to them. I think the parts run ~$60 (no clue how much it costs to have sig install)
The short trigger, is just that, one piece, and VERY easy to install. Takes just a few minutes. Cost ~$30
I highly recommend the Sig armorers DVD that Top Gun Supply sells. It is a great tutorial.

I, too, am "DIGITALLY IMPAIRED", my index finger almost a full joint shorter than my middle finger. I have had the short triggers installed on my P220, P225, P226, P228, P229 and P245. That leaves only my P239 with the standard reach trigger. Please note that all my SIG pistols have been converted at the factory to DAO.
Obviously, I think, for me, the SIG short trigger is the way to go!
