View Full Version : AR Configuration With A Bullet Button? Grocked 06-26-2008, 01:43 Thanks! magiaaron 06-26-2008, 03:13 CA legal AR-15 (What is legal to have): Extendable buttstock that doesn't collapse 10 round removable magazine (with bullet button to release mag) Pistol grip I'm so ignorant of this. What is a bullet button? I guess I"ll google it. Also, how can you have an extendable buttstock that doesn't collapse? Does it do nothing but get longer? If so, is there a maximum length, or can it extend forever? Because that sounds unpleasant. EDIT: I looked it up. It looks like the bullet button isn't approved yet in CA for sure. You might get screwed in the end. Not sure. -magiaaron Grocked 06-26-2008, 03:20 I'm so ignorant of this. What is a bullet button? I guess I"ll google it. I wasn't trying to get into a discussion on California. I just wasn't familiar with what you were talking about and was interested in learning more. The bullet ejection button is very very clever, btw. :) Anyway, good luck. Whichever you get, I hope you love it! -magiaaron Grocked 06-26-2008, 04:31 No problem. Yeah, whoever thought up the bullet button design is a genius. Talk about making the best of a situation. Folks who love guns get pretty creative here. I would think folks who love guns would leave. Grocked 06-26-2008, 06:06 Thanks! D4RWlN 06-26-2008, 06:14 I remember seeing a horrible looking AR stock that allowed CA residents to use a standard lower(normal mag release) If I remember correctly it joined the pistol grip and stock together which deleted the "pistol" grip. It was ugly as sin but allows you to always change the stock out and have a normal AR if you ever leave COMMIEfornia. FWIW I prefer the AR platform. I'm going to google this stock. Update: Just googled the bullet button and the U15. I don't think the Bullet Button is so bad since its removable. Still sucks. I love Cali but hate the gun laws. My vote still goes to the AR Quiet 06-26-2008, 20:33 Go to www.calguns.net to educate yourself about CA gun laws and find out what's legal in CA. The "bullet button" can always be converted if you ever leave Commiefornia. In fact the one "bullet button" AR I saw had the necessary parts in a plastic bag with the rifle. Should I not compromise and just get a Saiga 7.62x39 the way it was designed?? I'm asking for some rifle advice not what I already know about the state I live in. A saiga is never a compromise! You will have to spend a lot more on your AR15 to meet the quality and reliability of a saiga in any caliber. When I finnally have to open my safe to protect my family from taliban, I will definitely skip my AR's and pic up my Saigas. I have one in 7.62 and in .223. They both are absolutely a pleasure to shoot and even easier to clean. I do favor my saiga in .223 for its super low recoil. I was pretty positive that any and all AK recievers are outlawed in California. The saiga uses a true AK receiver and parts that come directly from the same russian factory as its military counterpart. I ain't leaving.:2gun: epsylum 06-27-2008, 12:13 I would just get the Saiga over a heavily neutered AR. Usingmyrights 06-27-2008, 12:20 AR's are currently sold throughout CA with bullet buttons. A bullet button keeps the magazine locked into the mag. well. You need to insert a pin or other tool into a small hole on the mag release to eject the mag. The tip of a bullet also works. The point is, you are not able to eject the magazine with your fingers, the hole is too small. You can eject magazines quite fast once you become proficient with it. The buttstock just extends a bit and can retract. No big deal. I really don't want to get into a whole CA legal discussion. Go to Calguns.net for that stuff. I'm just weighing which is the better option, Saiga 7.62x39 or CMMG AR. Thank you. Would a thumbtack work? That would give you the small pin in the hole, and would probably stay in place. On the buttstock instead of the lever, thats a bolt that has to be unscrewed to set the lenght. I ain't leaving.:2gun: I'm surprized some of those are legal unless you've had them for years. Also its ok to take the Mossberg sticker off of the shotty stock. AJ Dual 06-27-2008, 12:25 How about a special ring for your left hand with some kind of stud on it? If cost was not an object, I too would go with the AR. The modularity means you could convert it to a more standard configuration should the legal situation change, and the greater inherent (on average, anyway) accuracy of the platform. Glock Influence 06-27-2008, 16:05 I would think folks who love guns would leave. That is easier said than done. Most of us probably have careers here that we just can't walk away from just because of some laws. If the **** really hit the fan these petty gun laws wont matter anymore anyway. At least for those who have ignored some of them already. moeman 06-27-2008, 16:42 I would think folks who love guns would leave. As soon as they put the worlds biggest trees,14,000 ft. mtns, excellent skiing, good lakes, awesome beaches, hottie after hottie, excellent job prospects in the mid-West I'm there... Actually in populated areas our freeways are the biggest problem. If you are a skilled worker or a college educated great place to live and have a nice home. If you are unskilled then it is really hard to make enough money to make a living in the populated areas. We still have semi-auto rifles, hand guns, shotguns and what-not but are limited in the choices in the semi-auto rifle catagory. For the OP, if you are in So. Ca. go to Ammo Bros in Cerritos they are awesome and will show you several legal and reverseable options for an AR and other types of black rifles. hodgkins 06-27-2008, 16:45 most guys who use the bullet button attach an empty .223 shell on a chain attached to gun for quick access. I like the AR, you can tacticool it out. Stanze 06-27-2008, 17:05 I'm surprized some of those are legal unless you've had them for years. Also its ok to take the Mossberg sticker off of the shotty stock. http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/7803/img5643gg5.jpg (Starting from the top) CA-legal AR-15 built from a STAG-15 lower which is not on the banned list; legal as long as it's in CA compliant configuration which this one is due to the non-pistol Monsterman Grip (http://www.monstermangrip.com/) and lack of other banned features such as flash hider, collapsing stock, etc. Shown with Pre-Y2K grand-fathered rebuilt 20 round magazine. It's currently configured in Hi-Power set-up, no scope, cheek rest and bi-pod; too heavy since it's a Olympic HBAR upper. CA-legal M4'orgery built from a Doublestar STAR-15 lower (same deal as the Stag), it's legal because it has a fixed (w/ bullet button) 10 round magazine, thus allowing the banned features. Upper is a Stag 2HT. It currently has a EoTech 512 and clone EoTech 3x magnifier. Hungarian SA-85M. Legal because it was never banned by make and model (CA DOJ no longer has the power to add banned guns to the "Assault Weapon " list), it's equipped with a wooden(made by Ironwood) Monsterman AK non-pistol grip grip and no banned features. Shown with Pre-Y2K grandfathered rebuilt 30 round magazine. Yugoslavian M59, legal in CA because it does not have a grenade launcher. I can even mod it to take detachable magazines since it's not technically an SKS, but there's no reason to since the Simonov design is fine the way it is. Ruger 10/22 with Butler Creek folding stock, VFG and pre-Y2K grandfathered BC HotLips magazine. Rimfire rifles are exempt from CA's "Assault Weapons" ban and can have all the banned features. GLOCK 17 with pre Y2K rebuilt mags. Legal. Maverick 88 12 gauge, legal. Mossberg 500 Youth Model. I bought it for my wife last Xmas, if she wants to keep the sticker or remove it, that's her business. Here's a vid of me mag dumping my AK. http://youtube.com/watch?v=s3dk9IxpBh4 So, again...I still get my gun jollies with some minor inconveniences (depending on how you look at it) so why should I leave? I choose to stay and fight the good fight. Molon labe! vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
