Perhaps the XD .45 Tactical or Smith and Wesson J frame? Both seem way overbuilt for their round.

Haha funny, This thread was just posted like a month ago.

But I think maybe Glock or Ruger?

Another vote for Ruger P-series :)

And....What is the 7.26x39 of handgun rounds. I'm NOT asking what handgun and round is the best overall. No favorites here! No. What handgun and round best exemplifies the AK's blunt force overbuilt dumb reliability and simple tank/hammer like construction? The pure Soviet-ness of it, if you will. Russian fortitude at its best.

It has to be something Ruger...maybe the GP 100 - a heavy, slow to reload, block of steel that will do its job acceptably, will need repairs often, and is highly overrated by some and ridiculed by others. (I work for an agency that issued many ruger GP 100's and Mini-14's, before deciding that lifetime repair and replacement still didn't make it a better choice than Glock and AR's).

Ruger P-series or Glock 21

I think the Glock 17s' and 19s' have replaced the Browing Hi-Power as the most used pistol in the world so my ote would be for the Glock.

Browning Hi Power or 1911:wavey:

You'd have to say Glock.

To anti-gunners, all rifles are AK-47's and all handguns are Glocks.

Milspec 1911

It has it's idiosyncracies, but is universally recognized, has longevity and battle proven.
Still very effective.

Glock.

Reliability is THE most important factor, and from what I can tell you're using the AK-47 as the model because of reliability.

Teh Makarov PM.

Browning HiPower. Issued to over 50 countries, found all over the world. In the cheap, always available 9x19.

Glock will have to work another 40 years just to match the production numbers (and that's for all their models).

Nothing else comes close.

While everybody is talking guns I'll put in 9mm as the ammo. Most available and widely spread throughout the world.

Ruger P-series. I would compare the Glock to the Steyr AUG:cool:.

CZ 9mm

A WW2 Luger

USGI 1911

All are tough, durable and ugly, just like the AK-47

Glock 19 for my point of view. But if I had another gun that had 5000 rds thru it with no hick ups I would probally pick that one.

And the month before that, and before that, etc., etc.

What is a Makarov, Alex?

Not Alex, but the Makarov was the standard issue military sidearm for the Communist-bloc countries. It's what I was thinking to go along with an AK. IMHO, it's built "tank-tough" like the AKs are.....ultra reliable.....Shoots 9x18 Makarov.

They were a common inexpensive import a few years ago, but are getting harder to come by lately......mine cost $139.....one of the best handgun purchases I've ever made.

LOL. I know the Makarov, I've owned a couple (in fact the exact two you posted if the bottom one is a Bulgarian) I was just answering his question in Jeopardy form... you know, Alex Trebek.

OK, pardon me, TD.....

I'll bet there are one or two who read this thread that'll become enlightened, though......so, I guess it wasn't a complete wasted post.

I didn't mean to imply that it was a wasted post at all, a very good post in fact.

$139 is exactly what I paid for my Bulgarian. I bought the Baikal for $89 just a few months ago and gave it to a friend that needed a pistol.
