I was just given a Marlin 60 .22 LR rifle that does not function properly. I know this is going to be hard to explain and actually have somebody know what the problem is but I figured I would give it a shot, so if somebody thinks they have a clue as to what might be wrong go ahead and chime in...
The problem is when a round is chambered and I pull the trigger to fire the trigger just loosley goes all the way back and the round is not fired.
After inspecting the rifle I have found that on the left hand side plate there is a long thin flat piece of metal that runs against the side plate and has a bend at one end and in the middle of the thin flate piece their is a hole that is lined up with another hold on the side plate. I get the feeling that their is supposed to be a spring of some sort that goes throught hese holes and is the root of my problem.

Here is a link to the Marlin 60 owners manual. If you go to the second to last page their is a parts breakdown of the rifle. If you look at the parts breakdown you can see the long thin flat piece of metal I am speaking about attatched to part # 51 and I am kind of thinking that I might be missing part # 15, but I cant tell by the picture due to lack of detail and clarity.
Well, I know that a lot of rambling but hopfully one of you can give me a hand. Thanks for any help!
