i really dislike my co-workers

i work as a cook in a nursinghome in my small town. i've been in the kitchen for 14 years. i've seen 97 people quit, leave, get fired, be escorted out by law-enforcemnet, or go into another department.

in the last 3 years the polictical BS in the kitchen has really got me down. i have serious panic attacks when i have to do certain meals with certain people, before i even get to work!

granted i live only 4 miles away and make a good check, but i really need to get away from that place.

how many have this problem too?

I used to have this problem. I solved it by getting a new job with more money and better benefits, not to mention better working conditions.

Its a shame that you been there so long and things are now that bad. If you been there for so long, and if the issues stem from thing/people under you, you can talk to management, if not you can just move on.

Life is to short to work some place you hate.

You have at least 14 years experiance, you can get another job.

Where is your manager, or as senior kitchen employee, are they sorta making you perform that function?

Ever hear the old saying "vote with your feet"??? That is certainly one solutution. I sort of have the same situation but...the money is just too good to leave. So I developed the attitude that I simply dont care. As long as they continue to pay me I will continue to show up with my hand stuck out. The only healthy way to stay and work at a place like that is to take the money and run while quietly thinking to yourself about your manager, "the jokes on you, stay stupid."

I hear where you are coming from. I love my job, but hate where I work, or should I say the people. I never met a more bunch of rude, inconsiderate, lazy people in my life. The only reason I have not left is because my manager is very lenient with my hours. My school schedule is constantly changing, and he works with me.

How much more school do you have? Were you planning on moving up once you finished? It might be worthwhile to stick it out. Not all employers are willing to be flexible with school...especially when you consider that you'd be the new guy should you leave.

I have 2 1/2 years left. Not staying there when I am done, it is a totally different field. Flexibility is pretty much the reason I am staying. I don't think I will be there the rest of my school time, eventually I will leave and not work.
